Dog Bite
- Louise (15th Jan 2015 - 22:23:15)
I was bitten by a Jack Russell , or similar breed, in a totally unprovoked attack on Tuesday 13th January just after 3pm.
I was walking close to the railway bridge when a man, with two dogs on leads, stopped to let me pass. As I did so, one of the dogs bit my calf. Could the owner of the dog (tall man with two dogs of the same breed both with harnesses) do the decent thing and get in touch? I received a painful bite and bruise from the attack. I appreciate you briefly apologised at the time but I was too shocked to think straight and get your details. It could be a child next time....

Shame you got bitten but if the man had already apologised what more can he do?

In reponse to this, i think people should be made aware, not to approach dogs!
There is a lady that has a Jack russell type dog, long haired, and she goes to the school, i had witnessed it, snap at a child, and one day, she tied it to the lamp post, near to the entrance to the Junior school staff carpark, when i child ran passed, it growled, snapped, and tried to reach a child......should never have a dog like that around children. or at least have a muzzle!

Whilst I appreciate that the majority of dog owners are responsible and sensitive to other members of the public unfortunately there are some local dog walkers that seem to have a completely ignorant attitude. Dogs should be on a tight lead when other people are nearby, I for one do not appreciate being jumped on (no matter if the dog is just being friendly) as I am walking around the village and for those dog owners that do not clear up their animals mess, then they should be fined and then banned from owning an animal.
I can also tell you if my child was bitten by a dog then sorry would not be enough, there would be significantly more consequences.

Agree.
Louise has been bitten whilst walking along and minding her own business. This is a disgrace, and also very dangerous. What would have happened if she had jumped out of the way, or fallen over into the busy traffic?
Foolish owners become blinded by sentimentality and love for their little 'dear' who would 'of course' never cause any harm on purpose etc etc. They are blind to the fact that they have dangerous animals with sharp teeth that wish to rip the skin off other animals (human or not), when they approach the thing they are protecting' (the owner).
The owner and dog should be traced and report made about a dangerous dog. This may at least force the owner to admit the problem and a) train the dog and b) muzzle it when outside.

Hi Woo
The dog bit me hard through my jeans. Imagine if this was a child? I simply walked past and didn\'t even look at the dog. The reason I want the man to contact me is because he would not have realised how hard the dog bit me and I think he should be made aware so he can take precautions I.e. a muzzle.

Of course sorry, I think all dogs should be muzzled anyway. Hope your wound heals ok.

To comment from woo.
You say '... ALL dogs should be muzzled'.
Are you advocating that all dogs should be muzzled at all times to reduce the number of people being randomly bitten?
Perhaps with your mind set, we should ban cars, because, according to information provided by ROSPA, approximately 5 people are killed on Britain's roads EACH DAY in car accidents.

This matter has been resolved.
Thank you to the dog owners for their honesty and concern and reassurance that this rescue dog (with a very troubled past) was only without her muzzle as it broke on the walk.
