Broadband
- sherbertlemon (9th Jan 2015 - 07:21:36)
Hi,
We are new to wonderful Liphook and looking to instal broadband at our home. As we work regularly from home, we would like a reliable service with fast connection. Would it be possible to advise your broadband service experience please? Any to avoid?!
We also need to buy mobile broadband dongle until our new broadband is installed as our Vodafone one has very poor signal to the point of being unusable. Is anyone able to advise which phone network has the best signal in Liphook please?
Many thanks!

Hi and welcome to Liphook!
We are with BT for broadband and get 14Mbps down and 4Mbps up and this isn't fibre either, just a standard phone line. Service is very reliable and we are rarely offline.
As for mobile reception, I'm with Vodafone and it's atrocious. Barely get GSM let alone anything better. We have a Homehub to ensure reception in our house and I'm not sure if any other networks are any better.
Best of luck!

When we moved here a year ago we used my hotspot enabled pay as you go mobile to create a WiFi hotspot - not bad speed and fairly reliable!!
We are on the Portsmouth road, not sure about other areas of the village though!
Three mobile and pay as you go bundle - £15 and unlimited internet data
Now we are on BT broadband and have had minimal problems until recently but as theyre upgrading the lines to fibre it should become stable again soon.

As far as broadband is concerned it sounds like you need a fibre connection. This is just rolling out in the village and I'm not sure if it's available everywhere or just specific areas. Also, I don't know if fibre is just available through BT or if other providers also have it.
If you can't get fibre then the speed of your connection will be very much dictated by your distance from the local Exchange. We are near Bohunt school and get a very consistent 16mbps up and 1mbps down.
As for providers, BT are OK until you have problems. Then you're faced with phone calls to India and the inflexibility of a huge empire. I ditched BT earlier this year and moved over to PlusNet who bizarrely, are associated with BT. They are just brilliant, phone calls are answered in northern England and they are so helpful. They were also half the cost of BT.
As for mobiles, in the 4 years we've lived in Liphook we've been with O2 (or providers who use their service like Tescomobile and GiffGaff) and have never had a problem with connectivity.
Welcome to Liphook, it's just a great place to live.

Hi Sherbertlemon and welcome to Liphook
I concur with Keith's comments that Plusnet provides a good connection, has good UK call centre service and is good value. I have been with them for seven years and have just placed an order to upgrade to Fibre.
You can check if you can get fibre from link below
