Hollycombe Fairground Extravaganza Weekend 25/26 July
- Anthony Hooker (13th Jul 2009 - 23:09:03)

It's all the fun of the fair at Hollycombe Steam in the Country over the course of the weekend of 25/26 July as the collection will be holding its Fairground Extravaganza and Mechanical Organ Gathering Weekend.

Come along and enjoy the thrills and spills, delights and sounds the traditional steam fair offers with several of the rides at the collection being the only sole surving ones still in existance and operating. Joining them for the weekend will be the visiting 1936 Super Skid ride from Surrey and a juvenile ark ride from Ashington in West Sussex.

The collection's popular steam driven big wheel which has been sadly missed by visitors is now back in use following a major restoration & overhaul period.

There will also be sideshows, fairground organs, a display of fairground models, photos and memorabilia, and a display of some traditional fairground transport and living/showmans vans.

The Mechanical Organ Gathering will see the bringing together of a wide range of organs ranging from a display of small organettes and hand turned organs dating from 1830 , hand turned street organs, plus various size street, dance and fairground organs all playing traditional tunes throughout the course of the weekend.

All the fairground, railways and traction engine hauled rides are included in the admission charge!
See www.hollycombe.co.uk for opening times and admission charges.

On Saturday 25th July the Steam Fairground will also be open in the evening between 7 - 10pm. Come along for the whole day and stay for the evening at no extra charge!!

Sounds Good. I keep meaning to take the family up to Hollycombe. I've not been there in at least 15 years.

I remember when the fairground only used to run on Bank Holiday weekends, before it was sold to Tussauds!

We have enjoyed many a day at Hollycombe and notice significant improvement in facilities over the years.

I had to read the post in much more detail as "Mechanical Organ Gathering" conjured up thoughts of recent posts of "behind close doors cross dressing at the millenium hall" !!! I was mightily relieved when I found out what it actually was ;-)

Cheers, Finchie

I understood that some of the fairground collection was sold to Tussauds but most (all?) was bought back and is now run by dedicated enthusiasts.... A unique and excellent day out.
