Anyone know what caused the power cuts?
- Dawn Hoskins (8th Jul 2009 - 08:22:53)

Whilst doing an emergency 'fish-n-chip' run before my hungry teenagers expired from food denial - I was told that 18,000 homes had been cut off!

It was standing room only in the foyer of the chippy and the blokes running the joint were nearly having nervous breakdowns in front of the fryers!!!!!!

Apparently it was a lightning strike

Seeing the pictures in the paper today, we seem to have got off lightly with just a power cut....albeit a very long one!

I'm just glad I've got a gas hob when this happens around 'food' time:)

It was half way through scanning my shopping that the power went off.

I needed a few things for dinner - the supermarket allowed us to have our shopping manually added, but I had to count all the cash I had - which wasn't a great deal - as no cash cards could be used anywhere! I say well done to Bordon Somerfields in taking the time to sort out each individual customer.

We have gas for all our cooking - so no problem there - except one was going out - the other had eaten during the day - guess who that was??!!

When I phoned they said it was a pylon hit by lightening that wiped out a wide ranging area, including parts of Petersfield, hence at 5.50 pm (when it went off) they anticipated their engineers wouldn't get it back on until around 9.30 pm at the earilist, but they managed it.
Good job I did a back up before my PC crashed!
Kind of nice to see neighbours wandering around the lane all chatting about it, helping some of the elderly neighbours living alone who needed some kind of help.. sad it sometimes takes this to get everyone talking to each other tho'.
