Bus 13 blocking the entrance to Liphook Station
- Art Woodhouse (25th Jun 2009 - 09:06:28)

Hiya,

Can anyone tell me the reason why the number 13 bus parks across the entrance to the station. For the record there are 2 designated bus parking areas for buses within the station approach. One being the perfectly suitable designated parking space directly outside the station doors (sadly vacated by the untimely demise of the raillink bus).

As far as I an concerned this inconsiderate parking represents a deliberate obstruction and is putting drivers entering and leaving the station entrance in danger of an accident, major or otherwise. It is just a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt.

Outside Countrywide (by the bench) is the proper bus stop - it's where it always used to collect and drop off for Alton College anyhow!

Outside the station building is probably a bit tight when the taxis etc are parked in those few parking spaces to the right, plus it saves the bus driver some inconvenience!

From your comments I presume you are the bus driver?

If not then clearly you have not seen where the bus was parked this morning. If I had parked there the police would have given me a ticket for obstruction.

I repeat, it is an accident waiting to happen.

I’m not the bus driver – but I did use the service for 2 years when attending Alton College, and for as long as I’ve known, this is where passengers always board and alight along Station Road. I have never heard of any incidents, although I agree with you that it’s probably just a matter of time.

Unless you’re driving a public service vehicle, of course you’d get a ticket as it would be breaking the highway code by parking “at or near a bus stop or taxi rank.”

Art, why don't you complain directly to the bus company? It is unlikely that they will address your concerns unless you do so.

I noticed that today as I headed for the train.

Interestingly, I slowly turned right, avoiding the large bus, making sure there were no passengers I was about to hit.

Didn't think to complain about it though. Clearly I must be a bit to relaxed about life and should get my priorities right :-)

I think we should rise against the bad bus people. Lead a revolution. Anyone up for up for it (yes I have been drinking).

Cheery Cheers, Finchie

I imagine the 15 or so squadys returning from their day at the sea side on Sunday evening would have given anything for a bus - being parked anywhere at all!

All they got was the couple from Apple cabs rubbing their hads together in delight - and a big hole in their wallets!
