Just thought I would share with you 2 scams that are doing the rounds. At this point (as far as I could establish) neither are in the local area - but that is not to say they wont be.
1. People approaching you in either garage forecourts or supermarket car parks offering perfumes cheap. They offer you a sample sniff. Unfortunately you would sniff ETHER and temporarily pass out, then they take what they want from you, or your car.!!
2. Stickers are being placed on rear windows. Most people will get into their cars, start the engine and then spot it. Naturally they get out of the car, leave the engine running and quite possible the door open - when someone else jumps in and drives off with your car.
Perhaps Mr Kedge or our local Police/community officer could inform us if he knows of any incidents in Hampshire/Surrey/Sussex or of any other SCAMS that we could fall foul of?

Hi Sue
Perfume/ether - believed to be a hoax.
This has been doing the rounds in one form or another since 2000 and has been adapted slightly for different countries.
I would be VERY surprised if there have been any recorded instances of either of these two.

Well if you say there is no need to be concerned - then that is a relief.
I will double check with the collegue who e-mailed all friends and associates pointing out that this actually happened to her!! (the ether one).
The question now is why would people lie about such things - what is the point??

Hi Sue
I think you will find that your 'friend' has just forwarded on the 'scam' email. 99% of all emails you receive of this nature (ie lost children etc) are just viral spam / scams.
Please do post back what she says - I don't believe they will actually have been attacked in that way.
As a general rule - NEVER forward on emails before you do a quick search on Google - it took less than a minute to confirm your two were not real.
