Liphook Initiative
- Mani (15th Jun 2009 - 14:43:18)

Dear All,

Sorry I have been out of communication for the last month. I have just started a new job and moved house, but despite a lot of forward planning, BT left us with no phone for 3 weeks.! Even after our phone was put in AOL took another 10 days to restore our broadband! So I have had not had Internet access (except for very limited time on my neighbour PC) for over a month! I am now back on line!

I am conscious that at the last meeting I said we should have one in 6 weeks time and that time has come. However it is too short notice to plan the next meeting for this week and I am away in Germany next week. How does 7 PM on Wed 1 Jul 09 sound?

I will try to find a suitable venue and let you know, in the mean time please do pass the word around about the meeting and I will get the Record of Decisions from the last meeting and Agenda for the next meeting out in the next couple of days.

Mani

Hi

Just to let you know, the meeting is not for 1st July. When Mani returns from Germany - or if I can make contact earlier I will confirm the date and time. I have made a provisional booking for 8th July 6.45 at the Black Fox. This time we will have use of their conference room, so we should not have any distractions from bar noise.

Many thanks to Allan for letting us use his hospitality again.

Helen

I have just noticed your question.

This is a Business/commercial group representing all businesses etc within Liphook, together with members of the community who have ideas/concerns of what they wish to see to improve the area (commercial or otherwise) and how we can promote what businesses/services Liphook has to offer.

Right at this point the group is holding its first meeting proper, when we will get down to the nitty gritty. The first decision will be to set a title for the group. (unfortunately the herald printed that we already had a name - but that is not the case).

When Mani returns (Chairman), I am sure he will enlarge on events to be discussed and actions we can take.

May i take this opportunity to invite anyone who may be interested - to attend the next meeting.

Sue

You will all know by now that the next Liphook Initiative meeting is taking place in the Black Fox Inn at 6:45PM on 8 July 09. Dick Smith, Chairman of Buy in Grayshott (BIG) which is a very successful and well supported "Business Organisation" has agreed to come and talk to us about how and why BIG has been such a success. Please do come along and "bounce" any ideas for Liphook you may have off him and the rest of the meeting.

Just in case I can't make next week's meeting, I wanted to point you to a scheme which might help us here...

page 4 of latest issue of 'Hampshire Now: the county council magazine'...

"Launched in April 2008, the Village Community Grant Scheme offers funding to rural businesses to help increase the use of village shops and to create new community-led village stores, particularly in communites which have lost their post offices [what one hand taketh away, the other offers to give back...?!].
With combined funding from the County Council, the Govt's Local Authority Business Growth Incentive Scheme (LABGI) and SEEDA, the VGS has the potential to transform villages, and last year 12 Hampshire villages benefitted from the innovative scheme. We have further funding to help even more communities"
www.hants.gov.uk/business/.. or call 01962 845767.

Ah the blessed sounds of a screaming hungry baby. Must go...

Not sure if the above will be of any use ...

"What sort of projects will the scheme fund?

  • Projects that can help replace the footfall of the lost Post Office e.g. new retail services such as local food counters, tea-room, internet café, etc.
  • Initiatives to sustain existing services, e.g. setting up a delivery service or using a community minibus to bring customers in from neighbouring settlements.
  • Projects supporting creative location of essential services i.e. in pubs, village halls, churches and parish halls or other community venues."
