British GP - SIlverstone
- Finchie (15th Jun 2009 - 10:28:26)

I know a few of you will be getting excited about this coming weekend.

Who is going to change their tyres first ? How long is the pitstop going to be ? Endless debate over a one or two stop strategy ? Will we see ONE overtaking manoeuvre in the WHOLE race (overtaking on a yellow flag does NOT count) ? Will Ferrari stay (who cares ?), Is my rear diffuser better than your rear diffuser (and legal) ?

All edge-of-your-seat questions designed to distract viewers away from the fact that it is all a bit of a procession !

Just thought I would open your eyes to REAL racing from yesterday ... ;-)

Probably the best race I have ever seen, was on the edge of my seat :-).

Lucky I had it on Sky+ so kept rewinding

So good I had to watch it again last night. 5 exchanges of lead in the last 2 laps.

In case, no one has clicked the link - it is the MotoGP (Motorbikes) in Spain last weekend.

[editor - youtube have removed the content again]

There is an Italian chap called Vanentino Rossi, marginely gifted, last seen walking on water, who started the weekend at third in the championship, needing a win to stay in the race for the title. He is in the yellow leathers, number 46, and daffy duck on his lid. Not only does he turn water into wine, he is probably one of the nicest guys around. A couple of years ago Bernie was trying to tempt him into Formula 1 - I think he took one look, felt he couldn't cope with the excitement and ran a mile !!!

Even if you have never seen MotoGP before and never want to again I encourage you to click on the link.

This is what motorsport is all about !

Cheers, Finchie

Whilst I like all forms of Motorsport, in the last couple of years I have been all about MotoGP and World Superbikes.

Whilst I appreciate that F1 is fun to watch, nothing beats a sunday lunchtime MotoGP Race. 9 times out of 10 there is some maginficent battle going on (in last weeks case it was Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo battling it out for blood on the last 3 laps... a very impressive takeover from Rossi just before the home straight!). Even our british lad, James Toseland who emigrated to the GP last year after being Superbike champ is starting to find his feet after a very very shakey start to this season.

I would definitely recommend watching MotoGP for anyone who likes gripping the edge of their seat.

For the ladies who don't care about the sport, it's worth watching anyway because Toseland and Rossi are particularly easy on the eye ;)

Just got back from watching some paint dry - and can't contain myself...

Put me out of my misery - Was there at least one overtaking incident at Silverstone today ?!! Or did they all finish in their starting positions.

Cheers, Finchie

Well Finchie, I know that from my point of interest.... Massa finished 4th from starting at 11th so some overtaking must have taken place and unfortunately Rubens finished 3rd from starting 2nd....but I've no idea who overtook whom because I fell asleep!!!

As it happens Finchie your are about right! I think there was one on lap 47 but I must of missed it.
Forget about doing away with pit refueling next year, my proposal is tell the teams no pit stops, no new tyres and a pop up sprinkler system but your not going to let on when you are going to switch it on, that would liven it up...... a bit!

Re: British GP - SIlverstone
- Finchie (26th Jun 2009 - 06:19:42)

Steve - Love it. Another idea - a bag of nails that you throw out of the car - but most importantly have the flexibility to throw out as many nails as you like - anytime.

The real danger is Max "spanker" Mosley would impose too many regulations such as
- you could use the bag of nails in qualification - but no refills allowed before the race
- impose a limit on the amount you could spend on the bag of nails
- only allow one type of nail: one inch, flat head.

Even worse is that Bernie would then wander off and negotiate exclusive deals with a DIY chain for the supply of said nails, and all nails could only be bought from Bernie.

The teams would then throw their toys out the pram as Flavio "looney" Briatore would want to use tacks instead of nails - just to get that competitive edge - more tacks in a bag.

The only winner is Lewis Hamilton, as we all know who he is nailing !!! Boom boom !

Oh I give up - It's all too complex - back to the bikes at MotoGP

Cheers, Finchie
