Raising money for those made homeless and affected at moss court, Portsmouth road. - Bex Mcbrown (3rd Dec 2014 - 20:17:15) See also crash portsmouth road thread. On Saturday 29th November my dad and a number of others were made homeless, when a drunk driver lost control of her car and drove into the side of the flats where he lives, fortunately no one was injured but a substantial amount of damage has been caused which means 3 of the flats are going to be uninhabitable for the next three to four months. This Happening over the festive period is the worst time it could of happened and I'd like to try and arrange some sort of community fundraiser so the families affected can enjoy their Christmas knowing their community are here supporting them and thinking of them in their time of need. I'd like to hear from anyone that can advise me on how to start this, Again we are so lucky (me especially) that no one was hurt, but being homeless over Christmas through no fault must be a very worrying time.... As the insurance will likely cover alternative accommodation/ additional expense costs for anyone unable to return to their flat while repairs are being made. Moss Court will have insurance against such an event like this. Lets hope repairs can be made promptly to allow people back home asap.

Am really sorry about your situation and there are many/most that feel the same way. This is a moaners forum, don't be disheartened by the lack of response.

Give people a chance for goodness sake - we are not all chained to our computers you know. The message was only put up in the evening - yet by 2am you were slating everyone. Good grief!!

Re: Raising money for those made homeless and affected at moss court, Portsmouth road. - tony (4th Dec 2014 - 11:14:37) The residents should be able to claim back their losses in full, either from her insurers or, if uninsured the Motor Insurers Bureau, but it could take a while, possibly months to see any of it. It all depends on the insurers and how helpful they are. Some will make an emergency payment if it's requested, others will settle hotel bills direct, help with alternative accommodation, but there are others that hardly help at all. Then there's the question of what is covered and what isn't, here losses fall into two categories, insured and uninsured. Whatever is not insured has to be claimed back directly from the driver (ultimately her insurers), in this respect anyone with a claim needs to keep all receipts and evidence of cost, even down to a log of journeys to and fro whilst the property is made habitable as the per mile travel rate is quite generous, meals out whilst without a proper kitchen, even rent from family or friends could be recoverable with a receipt, always worth claiming, you'd be surprised what things are recoverable, if in doubt put it on the list, it will all be negotiable. Liability appears cut and dried, but until you hear the driver's version of events, you can't be sure what her defence might be, ie someone pulled out in front of her, causing her to swerve, I've heard them all! Key is to mitigate losses, establish liability and if the insurance has legal protection they will do all of that for you, otherwise maybe worth clubbing together and getting legal advice, although the process sounds pretty straightforward so far. The problem is that all of these costs need to be met first and, correct me if I'm wrong, but i think this is where Bex is asking for help and support, especially if money is tight at this time of year.

Re: Raising money for those made homeless and affected at moss court, Portsmouth road. - Tanya Wilkinson (4th Dec 2014 - 14:10:45) I am the manager of Liphook Care Charity Shop, With reference to helping the residents of Moss Court, we are able to give each and every resident that has had to move out due to the damage £50 each to spend in our shop on any necessities that may help them. Local Charity helping local people. Please contact Tanya manager. Hope this helps as a temporary step. We hope to be able to help more once the full situation of residents is known.

Re: Raising money for those made homeless and affected at moss court, Portsmouth road. - Shauna (4th Dec 2014 - 16:20:02) The Management Company for the flats hold Insurance, which should cover temporary accommodation, costs incurred etc. The Loss Adjuster has made a site visit with a Structural Engineer, we are waiting for their decision, but it would seem likely that some of the flats will be habitable shortly... the major problem is lack of good communication and of course the fact that personal possessions, clothes etc are not accessible for the moment. I think a Community Fund Raiser is a lovely idea, keep us updated on this

Being so close to Christmas it's a tough challenge though!thanks again. My dad was able to enter his flat at the weekend and pack some of his belongings...
