£70 Reward for fast return of lost gold iPhone6 - No questions asked!
- Georgie (29th Nov 2014 - 17:25:28)
I lost my iPhone 6 (smaller size) in Liphook Sainsbury's today at about 2:15pm /2:30pm. I was in the eggs and flour aisle and put it down on a shelf.
It has a gold back and a clear plastic back cover, with a blue rubberised sprung stand stuck to it.
It has been disabled by Vodafone, so it can't be used even if a new SIM card is inserted. So it is useless to anyone else! Please don't just bin it!
Stupidly, it is a contract phone and is not insured, so I can't just replace it.
It has family photos on it that I have not copied, including a video of my little boy's achievement assembly that happened on Friday, which can not be replaced.
Please please return it to the Sainsbury's Customer help desk.
The reward will be £70, if the phone is returned in good working order by Monday, 1 Dec. They have my contact details.
(Please don't post comments about how silly I was to a) put it down and/or b) not have it insured!! - I know this!!!)
Thank you in advance.

Did you have "find my phone" enabled? That might enable you to pinpoint its location (even though you know where you left it). Not sure if this still works if Voda have deactivated it but I would have thought it would.
"Find my phone" also allows you to send a message to the phone that is displays when it's turned on. Typically it's good to put a message saying something like "This phone has been stolen, please call the owner on nnnnn-nnnnnn". That at least stops someone trying to sell it. You can also send an action to the phone to erase itself if you've got private stuff you don't want left on there.
I hope the person that has it does the decent thing and gets it back to Sainsbury's for you.

Yes, we used the 'Find my phone' app. It said the phone was 'Offline' so it couldn't be found. Trouble is, the reception is not great inside Sainsbury's, so it could still be inside the shop.
I set up a message, which would show the next time the phone was within a wifi zone, but if someone has taken it to sell or use they are unlikely to leave the SIM card in.
The Vodafone deactivation renders the phone unusable, which is safer than leaving it active. I can reactivate it if/when I find it.
Thank you Keith, I really hope it is returned to Sainsbury's too!
It is really frustrating, because I would assume 99% of people wouldn't know what to do with someone else's phone, or have the inclination to try to do something, and would just hand it in to a staff member straight away.
