The sad death of Andy Higgins (Passfield)
- Dawn Hoskins (30th May 2009 - 18:23:31)

Many of you will have heard about the road traffic accident yesterday in Lindford. Andy and Sarah live next door to us and the family are completely devastated.

I would like to offer my condolences to Andys family.

He was a bright light.

So sad to hear that.
I drove past just after it happened. Sincere deepest sympathy to the family concerned x

I too offer sympathies to the family.

But, with all the talk about speed restrictions etc, Lindford now have a village 30 limit. The speculation about this being either speed, or someone pulling out thinking they have more time now seems to be the question.?

The facts aren't yet known Sue and there are signs up asking for anyone who saw anything to contact the police.

Speculation is that he was riding down the outside of the traffic (as most bikes do) and someone turned right without seeing the bike. As I said, if you or anyone you know saw the incident - please contact the police.

This makes my blood boil, I was parked in the layby in Lindford this morning and a motorcyclist came flying past I would say near on 50 miles per hr overtook 2 cars and went on his/her way. The crash sign is big enough but maybe this person thinks an accident will never happen to him/her. Why do people risk their lives and the lives of other all for the sake of getting a car or two ahead. Is the human life really worth so little to some people these days?

Jo

Unfortunately you are so right - most motor bikers (I am not saying Andy was), break the speed limits. I understand that some responsible ones will ride daily with due consideration of other road users and themselves, but from my own observations they dont.

I drive a lot between the A325 from about Greatham to Farnham and rarely has a motor bike kept behind me - even when I am doing the legal limits of 30,40,50 or 60 (depending upon which part of the distance I travel).

Only last week I was passed by an idiot along the Passfield straight - who must have been doing about 60-70.

I just wanted to send my sympathies to the family of Mr Higgins.

I live in Passfield and probably like many people I have read this post but not known what to say or whether I should say anything, since I don't know the Higgins family. But I just wanted to let them know that many people have read this and felt for them and simply don't know what to say or do, hence relatively few replies. But we are all so very sorry.

Very best wishes

I used to work for Andy and am so very sorry to hear the news. My thoughts go to Sarah at this difficult time.

Andy was a good friend, who will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Our thoughts are with those he leaves behind, especially Sara and all children and other family members.

Finally - Andy was a safe, sensible, experienced rider, please do not turn this thread into a 'most bikers this' or 'most bikers that' type thread, as that is surely far from appropriate right now..... :-(

I quite agree and I am sorry if any of my posts have come across that way as that was never my intention.
Thinking of all concerned. x

I was most saddened to just hear of Andy's fatal accident. I knew Andy from the Army in Osnabueck, Germany & played darts together.

Where does the time go? My sincere belated condolences to his family and friends.
