black fox pub

Can any one tell me what is happening to the cut down woodland opposite the black fox pub. I drive past it daily and want to know why this beautiful woodland has been cut down. Sad I know but still

Hi Adam,
Very simple answer to your question; The Forestry Commision aka Forest Enterprise, harvested the trees they planted some 40 years ago. The ground will, I am told be treated with weedkiller soon and the land will be re-planted next year.
The only element of regret, I suppose, is that the line of beech and oak trees at the roadside edge of the plantation had to come down as well. This was unforeseen and due to the fact that where the softwoods had grown up the back of them, all foliage on the hardwoods had dissapeared. This meant that the weight of the remaining foliage was hanging over the road and posed a danger to;
1/ passing traffic
2/ more importantly us!
It was perceived that with the windbreak of the plantation gone, the hardwoods were at the mercy of easterly winter winds.
