Does anyone have a sewing machine they no longer want for a reasonable price. Or failing that is there anyone who can do some very basic alterations for me.

There's a place in Haslemere that you could easily pass without knowing, but it's great for alterations of all kinds. I found them reasonably priced, professional, and friendly. I took my Son's suit jacket along, it had a 2 button fastening and he wanted 3 to give a more modern look, they added a button hole while I waited. Great stuff.
