Has anybody lost a Black and Tan ferret, spotted on Weavers Down this afternoon. 14.15 18th.

Could it be possible that you have spotted a wild polecat?

We are within the limits of their distribution here.

Very good news if so.

:-)

Thank you for that information, I think you are right, having never seen a polecat before I surmised it was a ferret. Will have to keep my camera handy. Looked for it this morning but could not see it myself but my dog was on the trail of something in the same area.

OMG !!!. I have just been for a walk on Weavers Down and saw the Pole Cat twice and have NO doubt, it is NOT a Ferrett. I saw it going through the hedge row as it stopped and looked at me and then it crossed the track in to the opposite side so got a good front and side view. It made my day !

I do not want to give the exact location in case there is a hunter wanting a trophy and just pray no one turns Weaver Down in to a golf course.

It is so rewarding and lovely to see our wildlife out and about in the countryside. Lets hope the only shooting is done with a long lens camera!
