The return of the independent - Bill Ratcliffe (17th May 2009 - 15:24:20) Is it possible that the cause of such poor behaviour by so many MPs of all parties is the Party Political System itself. I hope that Democracy cannot be so wrong, but the lists of second and third rate people who find their way through the political party system, giving us little real choice between the parties, is likely to be the source of most the corruption and errosion (including the discreditited honours systems) of standards of behavior. They are not up to the job or fit for purpose. Perhaps if we had independent people of integrity for which to vote, the hacks of the political system would have to find their own level in society instead of joining the lucrative band of hangers-on dependant on the favours of the few who control the Political Party machines.
