Gem of a website
- Sue W (13th May 2009 - 23:55:29)
Hi
Was searching for some information a person had said was available on the 'web' - didn't find what I was looking for but found this site
www.ukvillages.co.uk/businesses/Liphook-Hampshire
It is full of useful local information.
Also came across francisfrith.com/liphook..
You can view 54 pictures from the Francis Firth Collection of photo's from 1901 onwards.
Fasinating to see many of the buildings as thery were back then, and I had always wanted to know what Station Road looked like before the new build in the 1960-1970's

only 4 businesses in Liphook......this must be expensive to join then!
I loved the old photos though.

No - its dead cheap - free as far as I know.
Was very pleasantly surprised to see Liphook Hardware listed!. We certainly have not paid for it. I did notice that it contained a reference to one of our main suppliers, who operate discounted prices under their 'Fair & Square' membership scheme (which we subscribe to) - so perhaps they approached them to provide a list of all their customers. What ever - it is another point of advertising.

The old photos are really interesting - I wonder which golf club it is? Doesn't look much like Liphook.
Station Road is interesting - but I think the only one is looking along with the high pavement on the left. So still not much idea what it looked like without all the new, magnificent architecture of the '60's!

From what I see, opposite to the 'high pavement' was a large wall and trees. This was probably part of a garden to a house which I think was demolished. Perhaps others could explain exactly what was opposit 'Liptons tea'
