Exhibition in Liphook
- Girlguiding Liphook (2nd Nov 2014 - 14:40:44)

On Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th November there will be a World War 1 exhibition at the Guide Hall in Liphook (located in Ontario Way opposite Sainsbury's).

This interesting exhibition is the culmination of a Heritage Lottery funded project between Liphook Guides and Haslemere Museum and was first on show to the public at the Museum during the summer.

The exhibition will also feature items the Guides have made, drawing inspiration from WW1 postcards and trench art, plus Guide uniforms from the period.

The Guides visited the Museum on several occasions to use archives and resources to research various aspects of WW1 and also delved into their own family history to make interesting and informative panels for the exhibition.

They visited the Canadian War Graves at St Mary’s Church and explored Bramshott Common where Canadian soldiers were camped during the war. The final part of the project was a visit to the Imperial War Museum in London as well as viewing the Cenotaph and the memorial poppies at the Tower of London.

The exhibition is an excellent example of the worthwhile work young people can do when given the opportunity, and the Guides hope people from the local community will come along to see what they have been up to and support the event.

Doors will be open from 10am to 3pm on Sat 8th & Sun 9th November. There is no charge for entry. Refreshments will also be available.

Thanks Claire, good to know we will have at least one visitor!! Say hello so we know who you are.

This is an opportunity for the local community to show active support for young people who have undertaken something positive and worthwhile, so we hope others will also find time this weekend to come and see the work the Guides have put into this project. We think you will find it interesting.

10am to 3pm Saturday and Sunday at the Guide HQ.

Excellent exhibition, well worth a viewing. Well done girls. I even got to make my very own poppy.

It was a marvellous day at the Millennium Hall. There was the WW1 Exhibition put together by the Guides - a fascinating glimpse into the past. The Heritage Centre was also open - I enjoyed learning more about Liphook through the decades and its long association with the Canadian Military during and after the Wars. The Artisan Market was as good as ever and well worth supporting with its wide variety of unique goods. Additionally there was a Health and Harmony Day to explore. Congratulations to everyone involved today.

There really is something for everyone in Liphook - if you want it - with a fantastic number of organisations available - including volunteering. Nowhere is perfect, we all know that, but I think it is a great place to live (and that\'s after 44 years!) - particularly for those who may be their own.

After the Bramshott Church Service this morning which was very moving especially seeing all the younger members taking part we took the time to attend the Girl Guiding Exhibition at the Scouts Hall and what a really worthwhile visit we learnt a lot from the displays and feel that the hard work which was done by all concerned deserves praise.
We even made a poppy- so Thank you everyone for a very informative and enjoyable visit. Anne & Bob
