Trick or Treat... - Ian (24th Oct 2014 - 09:45:47) No doubt I will be accused of being an old misery but it does seem a shame to me that Trick or Treat (which seems to encourage kids to ask for something for nothing) has become such a big event. What happened to "Bob a Job Week" that encouraged kids to help others and in the process earn some money. I guess its a sign of the times.

Re: Trick or Treat... - Susie (24th Oct 2014 - 12:41:23) Bob-a-job was stopped because it was realised that small/ medium children being invited into strangers homes to do unsupervised 'jobs' was not really a good idea. This is why the scouts/cubs/beavers have community week where they do community jobs together. If you don't want the children to come to you either leave your outside lights off or put up a polite sign and we will leave you alone. My children and I look forward to it every year, the dressing up and thrill of a few sweets, and of seeing decorations that some people put up as well as admiring the costumes of others. I will have my Halloween decorations up as well as a few new garden bits. I quite enjoy scaring children. I know there will follow complaints about some peoples behaviour but MY children, will be polite and courteous as will the majority of the ghouls who come to us.

Re: Trick or Treat... - Small spooks supervisor (24th Oct 2014 - 13:33:55) The unwritten but widely adopted rule I think is that the children only call at 'Halloween friendly' houses where there is a lit pumpkin. The joy and excitement of spotting one can be great. That way people who don't want to be bothered are left in peace. Certainly no tricks, only treats all round and quite nice for little visiting spooks to GIVE sweets too I think, especially where the house contains some little spooks of its own. Happy Halloween.

Re: Trick or Treat... - Catherine (25th Oct 2014 - 08:31:08) Only been in Liphook for two years but when in Lightwater in surrey the etiquette was that if you had a pumpkin in the window children could trick or treat, no pumpkin no go! Happy Halloween!

Re: Trick or Treat... - wolfie smith (25th Oct 2014 - 09:30:17) What is a shame is Halloween seems to have carpet bombed Bonfire Night and penny for the guy. I used to love that when I was a kid.
