Timber!!
- Eneida Nelson (11th Aug 2004 - 08:29:10)

A few weeks ago Transco dug a very deep wide trench inches from the trunk of about 4 old trees next to our house, but belonging to a neighbour.

Yesterday afternoon a large portion of the one nearest the road collapsed, mostly against our fence. A foot or so to the right and it would have been not only all over the pavement but also the road. During school term the road at that time would have been full of mothers and children.

Does anyone know if the Council employs anybody who could check the safety of these trees. I can see that several roots have been cut. If a whole tree came down it would smash through our house. I suppose Freddie would know this if he was still around?

Good point Enieda,

I too have noticed that Transco / Morrison have left in their wake a patchwork of criss cross asphalt and deposits of gravel everywhere.

Where their excavations have dug through the paviour at the pedestrian crossing at the junction of Tower Road and Headley Road there has been no attempt to replace the paviour and restore it to the state it was before they began. Little wonder that no thought has been given to the effect on the trees that have had their roots cut.

Something must be done.

Just when I thought the traffic liights had gone for good, they're back, this time protecting each end of a lengthy installation of plastic barriers near the flyover. No holes dug or filled, no work being done, so about the same as it was before. Good old Transco / Morrison!
