Kindness in Liphook - your examples
- Claire (2nd Oct 2014 - 21:27:18)
Just wanted to spread a bit of positivity and cheer on talkback so thought I'd ask for people's examples of kindness. To kick off, I want to say a massive thank you to the man who helped me lift my baby buggy off the train at Liphook and then carried it up over the footbridge yesterday afternoon. Very kind and it weighs a ton! Over to you Liphook folk...

I would like to say a massive THANK YOU to the two lovely men in a white van who rescued me on Tuesday. I was having my first go riding a scooter, and crashed spectacularly! The two lovely men picked me up and drove me home safe and sound.
I only wish I had taken their names and/or phone number, they really were my knights in a white van. x

I left my purse in a trolley in Sainsbury's carpark and didn't realise until the middle of the next day....it was handed in to customer services, could have kissed them. There are good, honest folk about this Town!

i also help people on/off train wiv their buggys and help older people cross the road...
but what really got me about the people of liphook...
was back in july my husband and i held a fun day in name of our daughter, with all money going to the charity 4louis...
my husband and other family and friends went out the night before to the local pubs, with t-shirts, leaflets and a tub and told people about the charity and our story...
and they raised a wowing amount of 142.30 pounds
people do care x

Just the every day simple, old fashioned, courteous behaviour that still exists in Liphook like :
stopping to allow someone to cross a busy road;
waiting for someone to manoeuvre;
stepping aside on a narrow pavement to allow someone less able to pass;
and although not strictly "kind" a cheery good morning and smile lifts the spirits - when I was growing up people always used to do this but now it seems to be only the dog walking fraternity and people of my parents' generation.

Thank you to the commuter who nearly missed his train when taking the time to let us know our garage and neighbour's car had been broken into.
Thanks to the man who carried my buggy over the bridge at the station.
Thank you to my neighbours who amongst them have baked us a cake, cut our lawn and weeded when we were away and regularly take our bins in and out when we forget!

How lovely to read all of these positive remarks. We have
south african neighbours, and their little ones never see their grandparents, and as we love children so much they have allowed us to become their adoptive grandparents, even sending us cards with adopted grandparents written on them. The dad also cuts our hedge for us, and is always on hand to help in any way he can. we have a toy box round here for the children, and they often pop in for cups of tea, we also go to the children's parties, sports days etc, it's great.

Liphook people are absolutely the best! I have never lived anywhere that is so full of kind and helpful people.
I always find that the men crossing the station bridge help me with my case. I don't think I have ever had to carry it unaided.
There is real old fashioned courtesy about and it isn't only the older people who help, some of the young ones do as well. We should be proud of our village and it's inhabitants.
And set an example, by 'doing as we would be done by'!
