All Ability Garden
- Irene Ellis (17th Apr 2009 - 12:53:29)

If any members of the public go into Fletchers Field to the All Ability Garden do you think it would make it more accessible if there were a footpath from the Portsmouth Road entrace across to it. As it stands now the walk across the grass can leave you with wet muddy feet. Also it is not very accessible if you have difficulties walking, in a wheel chair or with a push chair. If you agree Please could you write or go into the Parish Office and tell them then maybe we can make it a better place for everyone to enjoy. After all it is suppose to be an All Ability Garden which means for every one.

Irene

I read with interest your comments about the All Ability Garden, in fact, I didn't even realise that all members of the community were welcome to use the facility. I often take the children over to play on the grass and ride their bikes on the cycle path and always thought I was being 'naughty' by sitting on the bench!!

I would also be interested to know what you know about the stone wall that runs the length of Portsmouth Road and whether it is protected due to its history. I assume a path to the Garden would mean cutting through it? We have part of the wall running across the width of our front garden and I have often wondered whether we can remove it to replace it with something a bit tidier as we have had several large stones unhelpfully 'removed' some time ago and it now looks a bit tatty.

Thanks Irene. Thought the village looked fabulous over Easter!!

Kind regards
Karen

The Portsmouth road side of Fletchers Field belongs to the Parish and is an open space to be used by the community. Drum housing own Fletchers House and the path around it and the grass up to the bollards. The seats and what was the rose garden but is now a dry garden where given to the parish in memory of Miss Halahan who was a local lady and was on the parish council for many years. When Sainsbury’s was built Liphook in bloom asked them to sponsor us by building an All Ability garden and the Parish Council agreed that that corner of the field was an excellent place for it as not only the residents of Fletchers house could enjoy it but it was also accessible for the whole community to enjoy. Twice a year Churches Collage children come and help plant the beds and they always look great. Unfortunately I feel for the most part it goes unnoticed because the community don’t know it’s there or like you they think it is part of Fletchers House grounds. We would like to put a path to it from the path that runs from the entrance at Portsmouth Road to the house but not to make the entrance bigger as this would make it dangerous with bikes and children going straight out onto the road although I would like some of the hedge cut down which is on top of the wall so that more people could see the lovely flower display. However unless enough people let the Parish Council know they think it is something that should be done we will not get permission to do the work.

As for who owns the wall outside your house Karen I would think that would be on your deeds but I would advise you to go into the Parish office and ask.
