The new skate park - elliot johnson (17th Apr 2009 - 09:12:47) the parish council said that they would get us a new skatepark around 4 years ago. Every year i write a letter to ask for a new one, they say yes we will; but you never do. whats the problem?. i think we should get a new skate park because we have been waiting to long!

What I mean is, did they say that they were looking for a new site to position it in or something like that? Well done for writing to the Parish Council for 4 years running though

Re: The new skate park - James (18th Apr 2009 - 10:36:54) Elliot, What has the councils acutely said? What are the reasoning’s for not proceeding with a new skate park development. I really think the skate park is a great idea and it was when the original one was built, however i have never seen anyone use it, that’s not to say people don’t. Be proactive: Have you thought of speaking to the council about arrange a skating event, show the council just how many people like the one that’s there. I’m sure there would be some local business that would be willing to support such an event, I’m sure my company could support in some way. Re: The new skate park - claire (21st Apr 2009 - 09:04:59) Hi Elliott I agree that a new skatepark or a radical overhaul and extension of the old one is wayyyyyyyyy over due. The current skate park is not nearly as challenging as some that other towns nearby have (Alton for instance). The current one is very dated.I live very close to the skate park and know it is well used for skating and as a meeting point. It is a vital amenity as far as I am concerned (tho' please don't make me go on it!!). I think my children were part of the youth forum which discussed the current one many years ago. It may be worth seeing if a youth forum is still active and if not form a new one ( I am sure Dawn will be able to offer you some guidance on presenting an eloquent argument). I personally think it is not just the skate park that needs an overhaul. The play equipment in the recreation ground is well over due for an action plan ( I actually spent many hours under the slide playing 'shops' with my son and he is now 15!!) The basketball hoop was another issue, the parish council said when they moved it, it would be given a concrete base to enable meaningful play but sadly that never materialised either which is suprising when you consider Bohunt produces some of the top talent in the country for basketball ....... how great would it be to see those people practising their skills and inspiring others. One thing the council did get right was providing the football goal on the recreation ground for general use. It is in almost constant use by groups in the evenings and weekends and the goal was the suggestion of the young people of Liphook. The more meaningful, cheap (comparatively) entertainment we can provide for the youth of Liphook the better especially if it is promoting excersise. Don't give up Elliott!!
