More Volunteer Drivers Needed
- David Lush (29th Sep 2014 - 16:11:28)
Bramshott & Liphook Voluntary Care Group urgently need more drivers to be able to continue their vital community service of ensuring that local, mainly elderly, residents, are able to fulfil their hospital & doctors appointments.
Our drivers, all volunteers, take clients to the following hospitals in the area.- Haslemere,Royal Surrey County Hospital,Guildford,The Chase Hospital,Bordon & Queen Alexandra Hospital,Cosham and also to various surgeries in the area, including the two in Liphook.
All our drivers are re-imbursed for the petrol costs that they incur for their journies and we would emphasize that, when asked to carry out a particular trip, that it is entirely up to the person concerned whether he or she is available,as.of course,we all have other commitments. This important community service has been in existence for well over 20 years and demand for its use is as high as it has ever been so we are very keen for it to continue.
Nearly all our drivers, are,as one would expect, either retired or semi-retired and of both sexes. However old age affects us all there are always drivers leaving and replacements needed.
We feel sure that there are people in the local community who are often at a 'loose end' and would be willing to spare 2-3 hours a week to ensure that this very worthwhile service continues for the foreseeable future.
Anybody who is interested, please reply on this site or telephone the chairman (David Lush) on 01428/725166 or the Chief Co-Ordinator (Gerd Goldsack) on 01428/722292.

Re: More Volunteer Drivers Needed
- Mary (3rd Oct 2014 - 16:24:21)
I just wanted to get this thread back in the limelight, and to add that it is very rewarding to be a driver for Liphook Voluntary Care, and such a very flexible system to be invoved with. There is no question of having to be available on a regular day or at a particular time. When the co-ordinator has requests for transport he or she will ring and ask if you can do a specific trip. If you are unavailable then that's alright. As stated above our passengers are mainly elderly, and sometimes lonely, and are always incredibly grateful.
You can say you will drive to any of our destinations, or that you prefer not to go to some of the more distant ones, or that you are always unavailable on a particular day or morning or afternoon. It can fit so beautifully round your busy life. We really DO need more drivers and the more we have the less we will all do! Public transport really is virtually non-existent and this is such a very necessary service.
