Water Pressure
- Frank (9th Aug 2004 - 13:45:46)

We have recently being plagued with noisy water pipes and a puddle of water by the side of the house revealed a leak in the supply pipe. Unfortunately, following investigation by South East Water, it appears that the leak is buried in concrete under the property and therefore our (expensive) problem to fix. I have been told that there are other residents in Haslemere Road who have also experienced problems which seemed to have started since the water main was upgraded a few months ago and which, according to a local plumber, led to a substantial increase in water pressure. This presumably is causing the annoying clanking noises in domestic pipework and ultimately leading to leaks in over-stressed pipes. Has anyone else experienced or heard of similar problems? Maybe we could provide a united front to South East Water? Recommendations of a reputable drainage contractor would be appreciated too, apparently SE Water have a policy of not naming companies even though there are "two or three local firms who do a really good job", good to know but not terribly helpful.

Frank -

The water company have to constantly boost mains pressure to keep up the supply, beacuse of the very old infrastructure in the village. My house has a direct main system. The pressure should be around 3-4. When I had it checked - it was in excess of 8. That's why my showers kept blowing up!

In the house, have pressure reducer valve installed (usually under the kitchen sink where the mains come in. Cost me £40 plus 1.5 hours labour. A W Ball from Passfield Ind Estate do all my plumbing work - not the cheapest but excellent service and follow-up. Trustworthy guys.

Freddie
