Power cuts.... Again
- Ak (21st Sep 2014 - 22:47:27)

4 momentary power cuts this evening in headley road. Has anyone else experienced this? It's not even raining....

Yep, Midhurst Road/Hollycombe - on/off, on/off, on/off - summers over!

Yes - happened in Passfield last night as well, four times during Downton Abbey - most frustrating!

Every time the power cuts it sends our boiler nuts.. It is really starting to take the mick now. Why can't they just fix this?

Yes happened in Liphook during Downton Abbey.
I'd love to know what the problem is.

I thought we had circa 6 spikes between 930pm and 1100pm approx.

Various Apple devices upgrading to IOS8 had to be rebooted each time. Our TV runs via an Xbox One so that had to be rebooted each time - logging in, restoring Broadband connection.

Boiler had to be restarted multiple times, fortunately heating timers fine,

Every device in the kitchen with a digital clock had to be reset - microwave, oven, clock.

I can't believe that multiple power spikes and outages are good for modern equipment.

I find it quite scary when we go to bed with candles alight to get changed. I always think we are going to burn the house down. However, I think the house alarms and business alarms that go off each time are even more annoying as they last much longer than the darkness. Also, spare a thought for people with stair-lifts that operate electrically and go to check on them (if close by) that they are not stuck half way up the stairs.

Stairlifts run on battery (charged by the mains) When the power cuts out , there will be enough charge to get up/down the stairs. I know because I have one .
(Though no one came round to check on me & I'm a few doors down from you ). ;)

I believe the network was over loaded due to the amount of viewers for Downtown Abbey

I reported this to SSE they phoned back and said that the power cuts were caused by them "fault finding" after a major outage in Bordon. They said they switched circuits on and off to see where the damage in Bordon was.

I prefer the Downton theory that the grid has not got enough power. Interestingly last year HCC was given a large slice of money to install rapid car electric car chargers in the county to be installed by SSE. They have been unable to install any down the A3 corridor , stating "restrictions on the power grid" and saying that it would requiring expensive upgrading to increase the capacity. They have bunched all the rapid chargers in SW Hampshire which is all a bit of a pointless.
