Moving and schools
- Sophie Bowerbank (17th Aug 2014 - 09:02:12)
Hi there
We are hoping to relocate to Liphook from Guildford within the next year. I have two children who will be aged 4 and 6 when we move. I am therefore concerned about getting them a school place as my son will need to move into year 2 and my daughter Reception year, but we may not be moved in time to apply for a place before April.
Are the local schools oversubscribed? Does anyone know if we will find getting a place difficult? I have seen the other school is Hollycombe which looks lovely as a back up but is out of the catchment. Are there any schools that we should be concerned about should we not get places at Liphook?
I shall be telephoning the schools and council for their advice but thought I would also see if anyone had any here as well.
Many thanks
Sophie

Hi
We moved to Liphook from Godalming in February and are well within catchment for Liphook Infants but couldn't get in - my daughter was on the waiting list for year 1 once we exchanged and is now 3rd on the waiting list for year 2. I know there has been some movement but families with siblings get priority so you may be lucky if you can get one child in then the other should get in on the sibling rule when a place comes up. It just depends on the year group as I know other years have spaces but don't count on it! I am still commuting back to Puttenham as I know it's only for a year until she will start Liphook Juniors and my son will start the infants but it's not ideal!!
Hope that makes sense and Good luck

Hi
Am a little out of it, but we found ourselves in a similar position, both went to Hollycomb which was great.
We did not have any issues when secondary arrived and Bohunt accepted as within catchment.
It is a small school so they used to put two years together, which can be difficult if you have siblings in consecutive years.
I am told that Rake is the primary school of choice now if you are prepared to travel. (a little further distance, but about the same travel time)
As I say, this was a couple of years ago so would suggest you check, but do not think the catchment area is a concern.
