Looking for a particular landowner
- Nix (8th Aug 2014 - 13:59:56)

Dear All,

Does anyone know how I can find out who owns a particular piece of land in Liphook?

Re: Looking for a particular landowner

you have to try the land registry, but you have to know the number for the correct parcel of land on their maps, i believe the land registry for the area is in Portsmouth, Or try on line I think you could do it by postcode. If it is owned by an overseas trust or limited company you will still be none the wiser! Maybe local knowledge will help. Which particular piece of land is it?

You can search using the address/postcode on the land registry website (make sure you got to the official one as there are many 'agencies'). I know that you are also able to send a map in of the land for them to search, although I'm not sure if this service is open to the general public.

However, not all land is registered... For parcels of land that haven't changed hands since there has been the requirement to register, you will find that no information is available.

If the land is registered, it's worth getting the map as well as the information. The infortmation will tell you who last purchased the land, how much they bought it for, any covenants and any rights of access (formal). It should also include an address for the owner, whether a company or an individual - however if the company/person has moved then it becomes very difficult to track them down!

Good luck

I think that is a bit drastic Simon! It may be just a simple thing like trying to get a hedge or a tree trimmed back! The owner msy not live. close by and would not welcome any trespass.

I suspect it was a bit 'tonque in cheek' to be honest.

Nix,

Take a look at www.landregistry.gov.uk and the public area for information on how to find out if the land is registered or not.

If you can describe the area of land to me (eg. between numbers 23 and 25 Church Road) I might be able to check on another area of the Land Registry website only available to professionals and see if it is registered.

If unregistered, it is difficult to establish who owns it as someone has already said.

Thank you all. I will check with Land Registry tomorrow.

It\'s actually for sale (London Road) and I know the agent hasn\'t submitted our offer.

I would be wary if I were you, the land is far too close to the River Wey to ever be built on. It also includes the bridge which is a listed ancient monument which would need to be looked after and not touched. I have also heard a rumour that the land may be contaminated and include land not even in their ownership. The owners want 250 thousand for 14 acres which is a bit steep I think. Because of its' proximity to the river it is in the conservation area which means no new dwellings, and on a flood plain. Unsuitable to be built on.

Thank you Ellie, that's very interesting.

We were planning to build one family home where the paddock currently is and to conserve the rest of the grounds.

I wasn't aware of the other issues you've highlighted.

the thing to do is to go to the planners at Penns Place and pay a fee for pre planning advice. They will tell you definitively if even one house would be allowed there, as It may be I am looking too far on the black side who knows but better to investigate that before you buy!

Anyone know what will happen to the horse that is currently on that land (if I have the right location) and has lived there all its life apparently?

Re: Looking for a particular landowner

Ellie, what are the contamination rumours? You can email me at newfamilyinliphook@gmail.com if you'd prefer not to make it public.

Thank you.

As a matter of interest there was another piece of land with horses on that was for sale, price £250 thousand for 10 acres. This land did not sell either. In some instances it makes you wonder how they came to own the land , who they bought it from, and if it is registered.
One might become a little suspicious as to why they are being sold for such a high price and then not selling, or in this case not having an offer put in.

That's the site of the old abattoir - it used to belong to the Allee's who also had a place in Petersfield close to where Tesco is now. I can well remember the pungent smell wafting towards our house in Tunbridge Crescent when the animals were being slaughtered and the wind was blowing from the east.

- oscar (13th Aug 2014 - 16:12:18)

The land did belong to Bill Allie all the way through to Bramshot.
The people who now own it put a horse in the field and kept it there for years. After the legal time they claimed the land as per the law. I believe it is some one called Mr light who owns it ..
