Lights at the bridge on Haslemere Road
- Michael (7th Aug 2014 - 16:10:57)

Does anyone know why there are so many traffic lights at the railway bridge on the Haslemere Road? It takes ages to get to Haslemere and they don't appear to be doing anything....

It is related to the closure of Midhurst Road by Southern Gas - I assume safety related for diverted traffic.

This was posted on the Chiltlee Lane post.

Re: Traffic lights - they are there for a reason - the set by the railway bridge is to allow big vehicles through that need to use the middle of the road instead of hitting the bridge and the 3 way lights are for a safety reason - have you ever tried turning right on the bend - a bit of commonsense please.

Traffic of all sizes navigate this road day in and day out. Anything slightly larger than a car has to take the middle of the road We have all managed to avoid on coming vehicles from either side and I find this totally condescending that the powers that be believe we can not use the road carefully.
The majority of the traffic are using Devils Lane anyway to avoid the end of High Lane, I can vouch for that!

I was also wondering why the second set of traffic lights on the bridge are necessary, since traffic of all sizes navigates it in the rush hour every day. But thinking about it, perhaps they are there because of the bend - to avoid someone whizzing round the corner under the bridge and hitting someone queueing for the traffic lights?

The 3 way traffic lights are definitely needed since turning the corner onto high field road is not something I would ever risk usually! I have certainly been using that route rather than Devils Lane, and so have very many other cars as far as I can tell.

Obviously traffic lights are never ideal but I think that the disruption from roadworks on station road has not really been that bad at all, considering!

to save tempers flaring and congestion would it be possible to make devils lane/chiltley lane one way
