living around liphook
- Lisa Firth (24th Jul 2004 - 16:43:09)
hi there
We are thinking of moving to Liphook from Guildford with our pre-school children. What's it like living in Liphook with small children? We have also seen a house in Greatham and fernhurst, but know less about these areas than Liphook. Anyone got any views??!

Hi, I've lived here with my wife and son for 6 years now, having moved from Haywards Heath, and it's a friendly and charming place. The schools, both primary (Liphook Junior) and secondary (Bohunt Community School) are very good and there is a strong sense of community. Good pubs, great countryside (if you're into rambling or quiet walks) and lots of public open spaces; plus Haslemere and Petersfield are good places to shop and are quite nearby. Liphook also boasts two excellent golf courses and Haslemere has a sports centre (the Herons) with a thriving swimming club.
Good luck.

There wont be many open spaces left, if the Government and the developers have their way. Not to mention affordable housing for School/College leavers. Everyone wants to move here, driving up property prices and ironically eventually destroying the attraction of moving here in the first place. I would say by all means move here but you could be housing you children until well into their twenties which can be a mixed blessing.

Hi
I moved to Liphook from Walton in Surrey just 2 months ago and find it a lovely place.
People are friendly.
Schools are always praised by parents who have children there.
we have a 3 year old who is at Willows nursery which is so much better than any available in Walton.
Haven't managed to get out to the pubs yet though as my wife is about to drop!

I have lived in Liphook for 30 years, (all my life) and I am sad to say I am now moving away, not to far but far enough, Liphook was a great place small village and everyone new eveyone. Liphook has lost this feel and this is why I am moving, having said this if you are moving from a bigger town you will get the village life and the bigger town feel.
It is just s shame that they are building to many new houses and not enough school places.
Good luck

"shame there aren't enough school places"
for whom?
If you live in Liphook at the time children become school aged and apply at the correct time to get into the local schools, I'm not aware that there is a problem. Bringing children into a catchment area of a popular school will never assure them of a place. Not a valid reason to leave Liphook though.
