Free View Channels
- Dawn Hoskins (11th Jul 2014 - 12:15:31)

We have lost almost all channels from our BT Vision box. Only have BBC and Cbeebies!
Is anyone else having problems?

Hi,

There hasn't been any changes at the Midhurst transmitter recently, so suggest you do a complete re-scan.

My mother lives in Malthouse Meadows and has had problems getting Freeview for the last three weeks. I have a friend in Manorfields and he has had problems getting Freeview, with random channels disappearing in the weather since analogue was switched off - and this is in a top floor flat on the highest part of the estate! Contrary to what the authorities claims the weather DOES affect what channels you get and the quality of the singal

If you go to the digital tv site (www.digitaluk.co.uk/)it gives you a list of the problems in your area including engineering work. It appears that there is a local relay station which has gremlins - like the local electricity supply. They think they have fixed the problem and then it reappears. This is causing channels - both BBC and ITV - to vanish at random.

So you are not alone in having problems. Some of us are so fed up with this we are thinking of getting Freesat.

How is Freesat different please?

Where we live we have never been able to get terrestrial television channels. We had Sky for a few years but it was getting ridiculously expensive when we were only using it to watch BBC, ITV Ch4 etc. So last year we changed over to BT who provide our Phone, internet and TV.

Up until recently we have had no problems at all, but the last couple of weeks have been very bad and the last couple of days - almost zero channels. Not good at all but I just don't have the understanding of the issues required to make an informed choice without being bamboozled by language I don't comprehend.....

Hi Dawn,
If you still have the Sky dish and box in situ then for a one off payment of around £25 / £30 for a viewing card you will be able to receive those channels that you mention plus a whole load more for no further expense. This is Sky Freesat of course.

Good luck,Fred..

... If you have Sky dish then can connect a Freesat box without any changes, plenty on ebay.

Hi Dawn
I recommend you contact BT. I live in Passfield and recently terminated my BT vision contract . The 30 day notice period should have expired last week - but I still have all channels. I am wondering if they have terminated the wrong account by mistake ........It was certainly a nightmare getting it all set up a few years ago.
I will certainly be contacting them to ensure they are no longer billing me!

I'd also recommend Freesat. We were only able to get a handful of channels on terrestrial TV so moved to Freesat 18 months ago and it's been trouble free ever since.

It's slightly confusing as there are two FreeSat services, both offering a large number of channels for no monthly charge.

- "Freesat from Sky" run by Sky. Seems to be £175 one off charge for everything you need, or alternatively £25 if you already have a dish and sky box. No monthly charge. www.sky.com/shop/freesat/home

- "Freesat" a joint venture between the BBC and ITV. Lots of options for boxes. No monthly charge. www.freesat.co.uk

Alternatively if you have a sky dish just pick up a sky box readily available everywhere!
Plug it in away you go (do not need any card whatsoever to view all free view channels

We are all fixed!!

The poor chap who was crawling around in the loft had a hell of a job in this weather, but after trying one, then another, then another thing he finally got to the bottom of the problem.

I can highly recommend him. knowledgeable, with a great sense of humour and not going to rip you off.

his name is Ray Harding

Before the TV channels disappeared we only had about 40 or so (although only really watched about 5) but now we've got over a hundred! It's even better than Sky was.

Hurray
