Thought they only had outline planning permission. Don't you need full permission before you start work in case there are conditions attached?

- SOS Bohunt Manor Community Action Group (9th Jul 2014 - 18:16:00)
The excavations are related to the need by the developers, GVI Ltd, to make a notional start on the Proposed Medical Centre to ensure that the current planning permission does not default.
The full planning application for housing, etc on this site located within the South Downs National Park is awaited.
Once lodged the SOS Bohunt Manor Community Action Group will respond accordingly.

I'm not too up to date on all this but Why are we getting a medical centre?
We have two doctors surgeries...or is it going to be a community hospital thing?

It won't actually be anything other than foundations until there is NHS investment. Mysterious wording in last weeks Herald "which will secure planning permission in perpituity or until such time as circumstances change to allow the new surgery to be fully built"....what does that mean exactly???

There are so many part time doctors, maybe they want to give them each a room? Eventually we could get a different doctor for every day of the week, now there's a thought!

Usual inaccuracies in the pro-development Herald if the report on here is correct. - You cannot secure planning "in perpetuity". I'm no expert but I think it lasts about 5 years. If no funding is found from the cash strapped NHS in that period then the developers will no doubt re-apply - for more housing on that piece of land.

There is no such thing as planning in perpertuity - that is true. If work is not started within the time allocated usually between 3 and 5 years depending of the conditions of the application and no renewal is applied for, then the permission lapses.
However, if foundations are put in place, which is what is happening at Bohunt Manor for the doctor's surgery, then there is no time limit for the commencement for the rest of the building works. In other words once the foundations are built the actual building work could take place in say in 20 years' time.

Disgraceful that the community should have to put up with the eyesore indefinitely! The whole planning system is fraught with loopholes that allow these people to get away with such activity.

Val - Can they do this even if it is only Outline planning permission?

No this only applies to detailed planning permission.
