Council Tax Demands - Terry (16th Mar 2009 - 11:39:33) I have today received the Council tax demand for 2009/10. Once again we have increases way above the rate of inflation. I note that the Police Authority has again gone way beyond with an increase of 4.8%, this on top of above inflation increases every year since we have had separate demands. Is there any link to the fact that the members of the Authority are not elected? This is taxation without representation which if I remember my history was a major cause of the independence war in the USA. We are now paying more for the police than to the District Council. I note also that our own Parish Council do not appear to have heard that there is a recession on. They have asked for 3.1% Why? We get no explanation with the demand. With all of the new properties in Liphook I would have thought that the increase in these alone would have covered any neccesary extra expenditure.
