Devils Lane
- A. Ryan (5th Jul 2014 - 09:51:20)

Perhaps the Council could let the tax payers of Liphook know why so much money is being spent on Devils Lane. The amount of work being done for this lane is excessive and must be costing a fortune. Within a month this lane will back to how it was. Even the men working it know it, and they find it incredible that so much effort is being put in to it.

Have you contacted Highways to establish what they are doing?

I'm glad as it's an underused bike and walking route. I've had to stop using it with my boys as they would regularly come off their bikes due to stones and sand, and the pot holes were huge (I'm sure the bridge was in danger of falling down due to the erosion).
Now we can use it again. It's a beautiful part of the village, safe for children to ride on and hopefully more people will be able to appreciate it.

We have long complained about its neglect so thank you council for spending some money on it.

Now if we can get the footpath down to the railway bridge rediscovered I won't have to walk in the road, jumping into the nettles when a car comes racing by.

Great fun for skateboarders, some have been having fun tonight, my dogs wanted to join them!

It is not the Parish Council who have paid for or organised the road.
Highways is a completely separate department.

I must say, I thought Devils Lane was unadopted?

I would assume it was EHDC who gave the go ahead for this lane to be done. One assumes that this is an adopted road, but I am not sure. It appears on any Network Rail info that it may be adopted up to a certain part of the road.
The workmen did say who do we have living up the lane that could get this done. I have a couple of theories as to why it was done, but whatever the reason it has made it much more accessible for people to come and enjoy a walk or bike ride. Downside, traffic can go at higher speed.

It would be highways dept at Winchester not EHDC if it is public road, if ut is not public then o f course the orivate owners pay
