Lake House Farm
- Jo Ruberto (4th Jul 2014 - 16:48:11)

I have recently discovered that my grandfather worked as a farm boy at Lake House Farm, under Mr CJ Allam and later at an upholsterers on Station Approach, under Mr Martin in the mid 1940's.

I'm struggling to find any old photographs or information about these places at the time my grandfather would have been there.

Are there any resources locally that can be accessed that might have any use to me?

thanks

Hi, My Father worked for Mr. Martin from just after the war to about 1960 so he might have worked with your Granfather. Mr. Martins daughters Ruth and Mary stil live locally so might have some photos. I can show you where the shop and workshop were located.

Bramshott & Liphook Heritage Centre in the Millennium Centre has an extensive archive of documents and photographs and may have something on the Lake House.

As a newcomer to the village, I have only lived here thirty five years, I understand that Lake House was compulsorily purchased by Hampshire County Council in order to re-align the Haslemere Road in its approach to the railway bridge.

If you have any contact details for Mr Martin's daughters that would be great.
I live near Dartford in Kent, so I'm not close by, but my dad may like to visit one day to see where his father was.
Any information we can get on his childhood/ teenage years would be great as it's all quite a mystery!

Thank you for your reply!
Let's hope Mr Martin's daughters might even look on here and see my post!

I lived in Lake House as a baby in 1958. My aunt and uncle lived next door. There is a picture somewhere of me in the garden. Yes it was knocked down with the intention of widening the road, but this never happened. The area is now just a pull off for vehicles, leading to fields.

I spoke to a lady the other day who possibly was one of the daughters, as she herself was born there.

A relative of mine has taken photos to the Bramshott & Liphook Heritage Centre in the Millennium Centre.

This is later than when your father was there and I hope you find some more information.

Thanks for everyone's replies.
I have spoken to the heritage centre, so I may be taking a little road trip to Liphook.
It's nice to know there are some photographs around, even if it is slightly later than when my grandad was at Lake House farm, it will give me an idea!

He was lodging in Lake House cottages and in Colyers Lane, which I understand are still there, so at least I can see where he stayed.

Thanks again everyone

Jo
