Frustrating visit to local Doctors surgery.
- Boris (7th Jun 2014 - 16:14:07)
After managing to get around the receptionist and get an appointment, it appeared to be a complete waste of time seeing the Doctor.
Having had flu for over two weeks, and constantly coughing and feeling completely washed out, I thought perhaps the Doc would give me something to finaly kick the flu and build me up.
No such luck. Nothing prescribed at all.
So back home completely frustrated and the coughing and wheezing and unable to sleep continues.
Makes going to the Doc a complete waste of time. No wonder
A and E are buried under with people going to them who could, and should be treated by their local GP.

I'm not sure what you expect. If you've got flu why are you going to see the doctor for. It's a viral infection so there are no anti biotics that can help. You can just as easily go the the pharmacy and get some medicine to ease the symptoms yourself. You say that a&e is busy, well local gp surgeries are full of patients that don't need to be there also!

And here is a prime example of why antibiotics are over prescribed.

If you've had symptoms for more than 2 weeks and you think you may have a secondary bacterial chest infection, it makes sense to ask the GP's opinion.
I assume that, following an examination, the GP was of the opinion that there was no infection present, in which case there is nothing that could be prescribed.
If you were hoping for antibiotics, you need to understand that they do not work against viruses.

i concur that although coughing and so on is unpleasant your body will fight it naturally, also this time of year an allergy to anything else could bring it on I have heard that dust mites can cause this type of flu like symptom. If you are able to make it to the doctor he probably thought it may not be flu anyway but just a virus.
