What birds do you regularly see in your garden
- Betty (30th May 2014 - 07:37:09)

Great Egret also known as The Great white Heron is back over Radford park.
My garden backs on to Radford park so I see the Great Egret flying about.

What beautiful birds do you regularly see visiting your garden.

We have
lesser spotted woodpeckers
Jays
House sparrows
Starlings
Blackbirds
Sparrows
Blue tits
Great tits
Willow sparrows
Doves
Pigeons

We have also had 3 black looking birds with grey heads not identified these yet possibly jackdaws.

Have also seen grey heron on top of trees being attacked by blackbirds protecting their young. Heron just sitting in the breeze.
Birds of prey possibly sparrow hawks circling above the tree line then swooping in the the fields.

Have fun identifying birds in the area and posting your finds here. Let's see how many different birds we can find in the area.

I live near Radford and saw a wren by the stream the other evening and we did have redwings and gold finches in the garden a few months back.

We also have nuthatches, yellowhammers, goldfinches, greenfinches, bullfinches, greater spotted woodpecker, green woodpecker, pheasants, dunnock, chaffinches. Occasional visitors are long tailed tits and redpolls seen this year. The black birds with grey heads are jackdaws. Also see bats and hear owls. The owls are the twit twoo variety which I think are tawny owls - actually two owls calling to each other I believe. Have seen a sparrow hawk in the garden and buzzards in the distance. There is also a peahen that wanders around Bramshott occasionally but I'm not sure that counts!

How could I? - I forgot the robins!

I forgot the robins as well.
a cute little robin was happily eating worms I dug up while weeding at the weekend. One of my dogs was fascinated and lay there watching the robin.

magpies
crows

we have bats flying about was thinking of getting a bat box for them.

I've let the clematis grow around the edge of the windows and had goldcrests in there which I watch from the other side of the glass. Swifts nest under the roof - always a great sign of spring to hear them squealing and wheeling around. Heard a cuckoo nearby but never saw it.

I never understood the fascination with birds, until we inherited the bird table when we moved into Liphook! Our robins (4 of them we think) are all called Bertie and are very cute! We also have various tits (including some babies), starlings (also with their babies a couple of weeks ago), nuthatches, mr and mrs Bullfinch, pigeons, collard doves, a magpie, a jay (sometimes) all sorts of sparrows and on occasion a black cap.

We can't stop watching them now and get rather upset when a Bertie doesn't visit!!

Costs us a fortune in suet and mealworms!!!

I just can't get rid of the Finches. Always hanging around the garden !

Cheers, Finchie

We bought a lovely nesting box earlier in the year from the Anchor Garage (in aid of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance). Within days of putting it up on the wall, a pair of blue tits moved in and they have constantly been feeding the noisy chicks for weeks. They must be ready to fledge very soon. The parents must be exhausted!!

Just seen a Red Kite flying over Conford - lovely. Can't add it to my garden list though as I only count those that land!
