My laptop is playing up. Can anyone suggest a computer repair person who will advise me as to repair or replace and who will not charge the earth.

Hi Richard
The problem seems to be when I am on the internet. Initially I can connect with no problem but if I come off the internet and then want to go back in all I get is the little blue circle just going round and round indefinately. Also sometimes when on the computer it will just go blank and shut down. I have had some messages come up but they disappear before I get chance to read them. The laptop is only just over 3 years old. I have windows 7, word 2010 and also excel on it.

Hi Richard
I too need help. What do you charge for a service. I cannot be without the laptop for more than a day.
Regards
Dave.

Recently my desk top was getting slower and slower and eventually I was unable to open attachments in e-mails and then finally all my sent e-mails sat in my out box.
So I contacted trustedpcman at Grayshott and they sorted me out using Logmein so I did not have to get anyone out or drag my computer up to Grayshott.
One hour and the problem was sorted. My machine is as whizzy as the day I bought it.
Contact Andy at andy@trustedpcman.co.uk (if your machine will let you) or telephone 01428 606395

Sue,
I charge £40/hour for an onsite visit. There are other companies out there who may charge less, but may take more time to fix it.
A word of warning to all regarding remote software. Make sure the company is one you have contacted and are using a recognised brand of remote control software. LogMeIn is a good choice.
If someone calls you unexpectedly, offering to assess a computer problem remotely and then install some software to fix it remotely for you, then please decline the offer. There are some scams around that involve the opening up of various semi-hidden windows functions, telling people that it is not correct (eg. red crosses in the Event viewer and Microsoft Services not running ), and then installing some remote assistance software that will cause some extra issues.
If you ever call an Engineer (and not just for computers) ask questions. Any reputable engineer will be able to explain what they are doing and why in non-technical language and it will also ensure that they are doing the job they need to do, rather than having a snoop.
Please let none of the above put you off, but please be careful as not everything is always as it seems (as we all see on TV programmes these days on dodgy tradesman)
I can be contacted here richard@dragonsong.eu
