missing rabbit (s) liphook tennis court/ rec grounds
- Sumi Olson (23rd May 2014 - 21:28:45)

I'm hoping my rabbits are laughing at me from a hidden corner of our garden but am concerned they've found a way out of our garden (which we thought had been thoroughly rabbit proofed...) If anyone has seen a brown and white rabbit called Ruby McQueen and/or a grey and white rabbit called Molly please contact me at any time on 01428723995. We're based in Malthouse Meadows backing onto the tennis courts. Last time ruby escaped, she travelled along the rec and ended up on London Road. I've not yet told my daughter who will be devastated. As I say I'm hoping they're being silly rabbits within our grounds but if you see them, please, please get in touch. Thanks!!

I've posted flyers around our area about Ruby but hope you could spread the word please just in case she's travelled a wider area than the surrounds of the rec ground. She's a Dutch breed and a good size. Very healthy. Many thanks for your help!

Hi, sorry your naughty buns have gone exploring!
Many years ago I used to run a rabbit and small animal rescue. I know how hard it is to re-capture escapee's!
If you need any help let me know. I have spare carry baskets too if that will help.

Thanks, Rachel We're still going out and calling for her in the park, they are lots of gardens bordering the grounds and it's perfectly conceivable she's there in one of the gardens as she's used to being outside grazing. The bank holiday weekend and half term might mean she's not been seen by home owners who are away at the moment. Not losing all hope as she's a canny rabbit but being realistic. Thanks again for your support!

Did Molly come home? Is it only Ruby still out and about?
I am more than happy to come up to where you live and help look around the area for her. What road do you live on, so I can get an idea of where to look!
These bunnies, they steal our hearts! xx

You're so kind, Rachel. Yes, there's a definite hole in our family and my daughter is very upset... :-( we're periodically going to the rec and calling her name. Hoping people will spread the word and a miracle might just happen!

Ruby has been seen by the tennis courts very recently. By the grey container! So she's around. Please keep an eye out!

Still missing!
Please can everyone keep a look out for little Ruby, her family are very distraught as is her sister Molly :-(
Thank you.

If, as Rachel said, it can be hard to recapture escapees and they've been seen nearby but refuse to come back, could it be they're happier being free and don't want to be recaptured?
Just a different thought, but why not let them be free?
If you explain it that way to your children, they might agree.

Tony, Ruby rabbit was free! I have been to her home and Ruby and her sister Molly have a lovely set up. They have a nice big bed to go to at night to keep them safe, and during the day they have free run of the garden and have even dug a few short tunnels under the decking!
I myself think Ruby may have a boyfriend on the outside lol!
Sumi, any news?

Re: missing rabbit (s) liphook tennis court/ rec grounds

Ruby is still making a home for herself between the grey container and the tennis court hedgerow which borders on to our garden. We are aware that hormones not sentiment is motivating her at the moment but are hopeful she will return via the hedge. As Rachel says, the rabbits are free to roam the garden and have a large enclosure with a large hutch inside which they use at night. Not an instance of feeling trapped in a hutch all day. They and our guineas have freedom of movement and safe surroundings. If nature is keeping Ruby away, it can't be helped but I'd still be very grateful for updates from locals so I can be assured she stays safe. I remain eternally grateful to Rachel who took the time and trouble to search on her hands and knees and to visit with support and good advice. Thanks everyone in advance for spreading the word and keeping an eye out. It's not a nice feeling knowing one of my wards is out there on their own, at the mercy of predatory animals...

Just to say that Ruby is alive and well! She is still tantalising close to home and is hanging around the seat behind the tennis courts and the grey container where the football kit is stored. We are trying to source a rabbit trap or equivalent. Does anyone have one we might borrow please? In the meantime, if you see her, please let me know. Thanks! 723995.

Cats Protection at Hindhead will probably lend you one Sumi. How on earth has she managed to avoid the foxes so far?

Hi DML, goodness knows! She's always been a canny rabbit. The cats protection team have been superb and have lent us a trap. If we don't entrap our own cats, we might get back our errant rabbit!

Oh my goodness yes - never thought of that - you might catch Olav and Siggy lol! Or someone else's cat come to that ..!

Oh, I will be up tomorrow if that's ok Sumi. I sent you an e mail.
Fingers crossed this may just work! xx

Er.. We did find this morning a little black and white cat. Sincere apologies to its owner... I've out rabbit enticing food and water and removed the cover as it's too hot today. We've finally blocked the hole into the garden as she's not planning to use it by now. So we are giving her a few more days before my daughter receives a letter from Ruby telling us that she still has important work left to do with the liphook rabbit gang... We're writing about their adventures and turning it into a book!
