Encyclopaedia Britannica
- Barry Hope (19th Feb 2009 - 22:52:56)
I have a full set of leather bound brown Encyclopaedia Britannica that I have no more use for. They were published in the 1970's and also have a number of year books for each year following their publication. They are in good condition and have been stored in my garage since moving to our current address a few years ago. I thought it was about time I reclaimed some space and need to donate them to a good home. I don't want any money for them but the new owner will need to have some strong arm muscles and space in a boot to collect.
If anyone is interested please email me on barryjhope@btopenworld.com
I will now sit back and wait for the deluge of enquiries.
Regards
Barry

put mine on e-bay last year, got SEVEN whole pounds for them!! More importantly though , they came to take them away - which was the real aim.
Book shelf collapsed afterwards

So can I safely assume you don't want mine to replace the ones you so sorely miss then?

Hi Barry
I have been biting my toungue (keyboard, as it were) for a couple of days since your post, as it's been crying out for a particular, jocular reply ... ! Hope you won't mind if I pull your leg in good spirit, as here is comes ....
"Presumably anyone selling their complete set of encyclopaedia's know's it all?!"
As mentioned - purely in jest .. no offence meant, as I'm sure you'll know ... !
Kind regards,
PMN

Phil
No offence taken as I know there was none to take. Brings a quotation to mind by Elbert Hubbard who was a US author (1856 - 1915). He said "Never explain--your friends do not need it and your enemies will not believe you anyway."
I would like to say that I have read each and every book from cover to cover, ......I'd like to say that but I really can't as I haven’t. The bits that I have read (mostly the pictures) have not provided me with the answer to Life, The Universe and Everything (although I have since discovered that the answer is 42).
As I was sold the set on the basis that they contained everything I wanted to know, or would ever want to know, I would have asked for a refund as they clearly didn't, but unfortunately I cannot find the receipt.

There used to be an old, not very funny joke circulating in Trinity when I was a student.
One of my lecturers said a virgin philosopher about to go on a date turned to Enc. Brittanica for assistance, but failed to get the correct information from the volume he then read:
How
to
Hug
...... (groan)!

Just in case anyone was wondering (Yep, I know what you're thinking) I have now found a home for the books.
Cheers
