Housing
- Kaz (14th May 2014 - 22:15:37)

I know a lot of people are against new housing going up in the village but as someone who was bought up here and have lived here my entire life I don't really want to move my children out to Winchester as that's the only options I am being given at the moment I can't find a swap not through lack of trying no one wants an up stairs flat so I was wondering if anyone could give me any helpful information as to whether new houses are being built at lowsley farm or Bohunt manor please :) l

Lowsley has planning permission for 155 houses, Silent Garden has permission for 128 houses, over 60 houses currently under construction on the former OSU site off the Midhurst Road. There are no applications for housing on the South Downs National Park, since you ask about Bohunt Frontage Land. There are thousands of homes planned for Bordon, so I am sure you should be able to find accommodation soon without having to move to Winchester.

Re: Housing

There is an application for over 200 houses in the South Downs National Park on Bohunt land. Not to mention one for a further 175 houses on Lowsley Farm I believe.

Re: Housing

The application for houses on the National Park has not been submitted yet. Yes there is an application for a further 175 houses at Lowsley but no decision has been made. There are also applications likely to come forward for houses off Headley Road, Chiltley Farm and Longmoor Road sooner or later.

There is going to be a lot of houses built all around the district. Kaz seems to be implying that the only option is a move to Winchester when in fact there will be new homes much closer to Liphook in the near future.

The application for the development an Bohunt was submitted in January this year and I cannot find any signs that it has been withdrawn. It is on the SDNP website.

Re: Housing

It is a PRE-application on the SDNP website for Bohunt Frontage. The full application has not been submitted yet . The SDNP have a requirement to find places for about 100 homes dispersed across villages throughout east Hampshire which should be for the benefit of communities within the park. The park authority has already selected major towns within the park which have received housing allocations. Any proposals outside of these areas are considered to be 'major developments'. Liphook is not a community within the park and it is also being beseiged by applications for houses over and well above the 175 allocation in the Local Plan. Even the government say that great weight should be given to the protection of National Parks. it looks like there will continue to be massive controversy over any application to build on Liphook's beautiful part of the South Downs National Park.

Hi there I may be wrong but the implication is for a housing swap? This implies the posting is regarding social housing? The houses I believe being built on the Old OSU site had permission to build a few social housing units? Building new houses in Liphook will bring around ten per cent or so of housing which is not market driven, the majority will be open market houses. Of course some owners will buy and then rent the houses out to tenants so that could free up some rental properties as well. Perhaps the person could specify if that is the new housing they mean?

Re: Housing
- liz (16th May 2014 - 08:27:13)

Whatever the technical stage of the application it's still another huge housing (and other) development potentially to be built in Liphook. Like the rest its unlikely to significantly increase the availability of affordable housing and will certainly not reduce prices as some seem to think. It will just attract more from out of area contributing to Liphook's overdevelopment.

I know new housing is needed but with the substantial 'eco- town' proposed for Bordon (without its own rail link) I think this part of Hampshire is doing enough.

Re: Housing

i understand there are alot of houses going up around the district but i want to stay in liphook i dont drive i am not implying that the only option is winchester that is a fact if u are bidding for housing nothing comes up in liphook liss or petersfield i wont be moving to bordon i lived there for 6 months wont be going back and ellie i would love a swap but nobody wants to down size to a large old 2 bed flat and it is big on one of the quietest estates in the village but its a first floor flat no one above me though i was just asking if anyone had any useful info like some links also where is the secret garden project ??? i havnt heard of that one

Re: Housing
- ellie (16th May 2014 - 19:13:24)

HI Kaz I. think you mean silent garden, well although that development had permission no one has come forward in several years to build the houses. I am still presuming you mean housing which is rented?

Re: Housing
- Donna (17th May 2014 - 09:22:00)

Kaz, I totally sympathise with you, I was never going to be offered social housing, It doesn't matter if the next 200 houses built are social housing, it's the system in place for being eligible. I know people that have been Years in their little flats, over crowded and mouldy, but they never get anywhere!!

I also know of people, who moved here from London, moved in with mum, and was shortly after offered a brand new build downstairs flat, with garden.

I think it's the council system that needs the overhaul!!

Re: Housing
- Colin (17th May 2014 - 21:13:32)

I have lived in Liphook all my life, and have seen many changes. But I really do think the whole village is in a bit of a state at the moment. Some housing is needed yes, but is it really necessary to build around 200 houses in the middle of a village like Liphook? and in such a traffic heavy area? and on greenfield land?

The existing sewage, water and electricity supplies are struggling to cope. Ever wondered what the sewage smell is when you drive down Portsmouth Road? And the traffic in the village is a whole issue by itself. When the kids come out of school the traffic is queuing from CJ Hampshire at the Sqaure, down to the Bohunt Manor entrance. It is ridiculous. There is also the issue of commuters parking down the old Midhurst Road, and the Portsmouth Road, which is acting as a traffic bottleneck. How do the council aim to solve these issues before building commences at silent garden for example? Will residents need to use parking permits? Or will double yellow lines be put down the Portsmouth Road to speed up the traffic flow?

I think before building houses these fundamental issues need to be considered. Otherwise the village is going to be a complete nightmare. Anyone else agree?
