Welcome to Liphook Debbie
Ignore Paula we are not all unfriendly.
Pop in to the local parish offices in Midhurst road they will be able to help you with local things you wish to join or find in the area.
There are some beautiful places to walk in Liphook.
Once your settled go exploring is my advice.
Ignore negative comments on this site take them with a pinch of Salt. If you take all Liphook people to be a bunch of moaners because of what you read on this website ,then you will be surprised. Liphook is quite a friendly place really.
My family have lived here for over 100 years. I moved away due to only being able to get housing in Petersfield. Which is also a great place. I moved back to Liphook over a year ago. It's not hard fitting in if you have friendly neighbours .
Traffic is bad at school run and everyone going to work in the morning from 8.30 am and in afternoon between school pickups and everyone going home from work. But it does not last to long. Walk it if you can.
Enjoy exploring Liphook and finding out about your new home.

the best way to make friends and meet people is to join in! I moved several years ago and knew nobody at all in the area, I joined a lot of clubs and 20 years on although i moved a short distance away still retain very good friends.
It may take a while, but persist! I agree it is wrong to just moan about a place. The effort has to come from you. I had no children and you have so it should be easier to make friends and contacts.

Not sure where in Surrey you are from but we are not far from the Surrey border and visiting your old haunts should be easy enough.
Liphook is a friendly and community oriented place, the schools are good and the surrounding area superb. My son went to Bohnunt School and then on to Godalming College which is a fairly easy commute. There is also alton College (about the same distance).
You will not regret your move.

As previously stated ignore the negative comments you will inevitably get on talkback. It does seems to attract those people who feel the only contribution they can make to village life is to whinge and moan on this website. Look at most threads and you will see the same old names finding fault in just about anything and everything posted.
I moved to the village about 15 years ago from Surrey and have found it a lovely friendly place. You will find most of the population are charming, friendly and kind hearted and there are an awful lot of residents who put a great deal of their time into making the village such a lovely place to bring up a family in.
So welcome to Liphook, Its lovely. And if you do need a Surrey fix you can of course just pop into Haslemere just five minutes up the road and watch all the Chelsea tractors trying to park outside the coffee shops before dashing into Crew and Waitrose

Not exactly a huge move - whatever part of Surrey you come from - the Surrey/Hampshire border is only about a mile away! There are huge regional diffences within both Surrey and Hampshire so it doesn't really make sense to generalise.
I have lived in both and have found the particular town/village is more important than county. Liphook is very friendly and a very pleasant place to live. Traffic not at all bad overall - although its gets a bit clogged at peak times (doesn't everywhere?) - and the drives to Portsmouth or Guildford are a doddle. Failing that there is always the train.
Perservere on this website and I'm sure will get plenty of advice on childcare/schooling/ toddlers groups etc.

Bit baffled by the people who don't like Liphook - it's not a prison - you can move you know. I've lived here almost 35 years - also moved from Surrey - not exactly a million miles away is it. I preferred it when we first moved here - quieter, more shops, less traffic etc. etc. but life moves on and if I won the lottery I wouldn't be going anywhere. I love my house and I love Liphook. Why would you live somewhere you're not happy?

Hi, welcome to Liphook.
The best way to start meeting new people is to join in some of the local playgroups. There is a particularly friendly group that meet on Friday mornings at the church centre - about 9.30 to 12. Little Lambs is also at the Church Centre on Tuesday mornings.
Madhatters nursery used to run parent & toddler sessions on Thurs afternoons, probably still do. I think Little Cherubs and Willows nursery also run parent & toddler sessions, but I don't know the times. I can give you some contact names & numbers if you want a friendly face to meet there.
Liphook is a very friendly place. I moved here 13 years ago and I have no complaints, I do like living in this area. I found that by getting involved with the nursery groups and school I really got to know lots of people.

if you are young, have children or dogs you will meet people. If you are older, you have to really make the effort to join all sorts of things, otherwise you will feel very isolated

We moved from Surrey to Liphook last August. Yes we are elderly but I must say , we find the people round here to be really friendly. We have joined U3A. Bowls club. Petanque group and I personally joined WI. you do need to make an effort to mix and join things.I think when you move to an new area you are the one who has to make the efforts as people don't know if you want to be friendly or not.So good luck and I'am sure you will be very happy here.
We are!!!

Well, I am surprised that people prefer Surrey. I grew up in Surrey and after 17 years I couldn't wait to leave.
Just coming out at the other side of the tunnel gives me the shudders.
We moved to Liphook in March from north London and I have found it a very friendly place. I have made some lovely friends at the baby groups and have great neighbours.
Sadly, I do occasionally have to pop back to Surrey to visit friends and family, but as others have said the border is very close - I can flee at the first signs of Godalming 'ladies' kicking off over the last poussin in the chilled meat section of Waitrose.

hi there,
i have lived in liphook all my life, its not all that bad but as it is a village you do get lots of gossips but just take it as a pinch of salt.
there are three nurserys in the village all offer different things...there are also buses and trains to different colleges, depends what subject depends on which college is the better one...?
as your not a keen driver there are trains and buses which happen quite often, i don't drive so i use them quite a bit.
im sure you will fit in well here :)
