Infrastructure - Utilities in your area
- Trevor Maroney (4th May 2014 - 20:39:16)

As part of our research for the Parish Plan we are currently looking at infrastructure, and in particular utilities. It is our understanding that main utilities such as electricity and water extend to the whole parish. However only Liphook is connected to mains gas and the main drainage system; the outlying hamlets rely on calor gas, heating oil or solid fuel burners as well as cesspits and septic tanks.

Could those of you living in the hamlets please tell us what systems you use and if the arrangements are satisfactory? For example, is the foul drainage system causing ground pollution problems? Is you heating system reliable? I recall, almost 15 years ago, that the residents of Witley suffered from ground pollution; they had flexible drains installed between new pumping stations that enabled them to connect to the main drainage system. Would a similar system be appropriate and work here? Is there a need for it?

Your views would be greatly appreciated. We already have information on Hewshott & Hammer Vale.

The roads in liphook/bramshott are uneven and falling apart. The gas mains leak frequently and there are constant powercuts. Maybe we should try to get the existing utilities up to first world standards before attempting to extend them?

Trevor, would you like a response through this site or is there a dedicated means of contact for this information.

We are trying to get evidence of infrastructure problems. This means that we do require the location and source of the information. So if you are a resident please email line me at: tmaroney17@gmail.com.

Naturally, individuals are welcome to add comments on this subject here, however they would need to disclose who they are and in which area they live for us to use their information; we are trying to avoid having to 'knock on doors.'

Incidentally, we have had no reports of major gas leaks.

Would you state how far from Liphook you are looking at please? Not sure about 'outlying hamlets' - how wide a circle you are looking?
For example, I am in Headley village and, although our home has gas, one immediate neighbour has no supply to their home, and they have oil for their central heating, and my other immediate neighbour on the other side does not have connection to mains sewers and has an underground septic tank that they have to have pumped.

It covers all hamlets in the parish of Bramshott & Liphook. I believe that Headley Down comes under Headley Parish Council.

OK, just immediate hamlets then.
I don't live in Headley Down?

At a wild guess (!) they will include those hamlets within the Bramshott & Liphook Parish. If you look in the Parish Plan - you will find out which these are.

The parish council website states that the hamlets are Bramshott, Conford, Griggs Green, Hammer Vale and Passfield.

I'm a utility surveyor, and I find the question odd. I can't see why heating systems would be any more or less reliable when hooked upto mains gas, or heating oil tanks.

If septic tanks are polluting the ground, then they are leaking, and need repairing. But mains sewers can leak as well.

The utility plans are available too, if you want a likely plan of who is served by what.

Dear Trevor and team

I can see from the thread that you are both looking for infrastructure problems to be highlighted, and also that you believe that the outlying hamlets [Passfield, Conford, Griggs Green, Hewshott etc] do not have main drainage and run only on bottled gas, heating oil or solid fuel.

I can confirm that the majority of Passfield have mains gas and electricity and are connected to main sewers.

It is possible that the un-made roads owned by the National Trust may not have had the contractual rights to allow for this, however as ‘Rob’ says utility plans should be available to indicate where mains power and drainage terminate.

Perhaps Rob could help you get copies of these as he has posted here – he may be interested enough to help.

Thank you for all your hard work, once completed the plan will be invaluable to the village, especially to show the EHDC what we like, don’t like, need and don’t need. The majority of locals have no idea – despite your publications – what a huge amount of work you have been doing – free of charge – for the benefit of the village. My thanks go to you all for your devotion and hard work
