How to create a bus route that no one can use……
- dawn (4th May 2014 - 15:15:39)

Just trying to get inside the heads of the decision makers at Stagecoach when devising the timetable for the ONLY bus into Liphook which runs an hourly service except for the times that everyone would be either going to work or school????

The bus gets into Liphook at these times:
0635
0735
0750
0913
0953
1053
1153
1253
1353
1453
1553
1738
1853

Thus avoiding any chance that anyone wanting to start work at 9 o’clock or school at 8:30 has absolutely no chance of using public transport……And they wonder why people don’t get the bus….What complete idiots!!

Total agreement

I am going to write [an actual letter on a piece of paper type of write!] to StageCoach about this.

How can we even try to make headway with rush hour car traffic in the village if there is absolutely no alternative solution for people to get to work or school in the morning [except get in over an hour early when the doors are locked or 20 minutes late].

I wonder how many people who work in Liphook, of which there must be thousands, come in from Lindford, Standford, Bordon, Passfield, Conford - and would consider getting the bus - if there was one.

Also, how many school children could be served - thus avoiding the double route taken by cars for no other purpose than dropping off children.

It is the only sensible way to reduce the morning chaos in our village and it is amazing to me that we have ZERO public transport into the village for this crucial time in the day. All very well running an hourly service - but if the majority of people have already got to where they are going there is little point in running the bus after they have arrived!!

I guess that is when he has his fry up breakfast and mug of tea so not sure how you will get round that problem :-)

you can moan as much as you like. i use it to get to basingstoke on my day off. lots of people use it to go to work on and the college students.i don't drive so i think its good. i think its a good service and only 3 times in 3 years have had one that didn't show up . so that's not bad.

I don’t disagree that for LEAVING Liphook it is a good bus. The powers that be appreciate that if you wish to work in Alton you need to get there on time and run the service accordingly – get there at 8:30am.

I also agree that for the rest of the day, it is a good service which runs on time. It is very good to be able to get the bus from the train station back home and also the prices are very reasonable.

The problem I have is that I can’t use the bus to get to work in Liphook unless I want to arrive at 7:30 am and sit in Sainsburys for an hour and a half.

We have a major problem with traffic congestion in the village.

In case anyone gets upset, this is just a suggestion, not a blanket solution.
If the bus is your only viable way to work and it gets in just after 9am, couldn't you explain that to your boss and ask (in the circumstances) whether you could start a bit later and leave a bit later?
In this day and age there's often a bit more understanding and flexibility about, especially for valued staff.
Good luck.

Sorry Dawn, you'll need to find somewhere else to sit as Sainsbury's does not open until 8:00.

I would like to remind people to complete the on line bus consultation on the Hampshire CC website It is not only the 250 which could be affected, the current service of the number 13 is as well. So I would imagine that enough paying passengers are not using the service if the subsidy may be removed ?

..Stagecoach own South West Trains...

So I think it is the same person who scheduled the 3 peak morning trains to London leaving Liphook at
6:41
big gap useful for anyone who needs to get to work for 8:30
7:19
7:27

Perhaps the issue is that Stagecoach are based in Perth, Scotland and might assume that London is quite small so when we arrive in London we are only 5 minutes from work. Heaven knows what they make of Liphook !

If Scotland becomes independent, do you think we could ask for our buses and railways back in exchange for the Scots having access to Eastenders from the BBC ?

Cheers, Finchie

PS Dawn, I bet you're not actually going to write. I bet you'll use one of those new fangled computer thingies !

PPS Guess what ! I'm back commuting on the trains !!
