Liphook station and surrounding railway area
- ROBERT A. PEARCE (3rd Feb 2009 - 17:25:24)
I am trying to find information regarding Liphook Station and the surrounding railway area to put together a model railway of same. I was born at Liphook station in a bedroom overlooking the platform gantry in mid 1940.
My father was the Station Master here and at Liss, due to shortage of manpower during the war.
I noticed that there was a talk given by the Bramshott and Liphhok preservation society on the 29th January just gone. Had I known earlier I would have come from South Norwich to listen with extreme interest.
Having said this I wonder if a message could be passed on to someone in the soaciety who might like to get in touch with me by email at first.
I hope this allowd on your network.

Hi Robert,
I'am sure someone will put you in touch. Just out of curiousity have you google imaged the railway station there are a few photos etc on there that might help plus various maps.
I can remember someone years ago who did the same thing, but for the life of me I can't remmeber who.
It might be worth getting in touch with the local model club as well, they might shed some light.
Regards
Steve

Robert,
Just another thought if you have got Google Earth have a look on there, gives a good view.
Just don't zoom in too close there could be some goings on in the car park.

When I read that you where born at Liphook station I immediately thought of what Steve is referring to. (naughty naughty)Bet there are not many folk who can claim to have been born at the station.

Hello to you Steve,
Many thanks for the answer back.
Yes I have "googled" but did not get the information that I required. I did zoom in fairly closely but saw nothing that I needed to report about !!!!
It mainly is about the goods sidings and the WD station that were there during and just after the 39/45 war.
I also took a telephone number from the Liphook Model Railway Society web page and rang three times but as yet have had no reply. It may even have been changed.
Regards to you, Bob

Roy,
A good laugh re. your comment.
But I was born in the station house. Our sitting room overlooked the up platform. Besides that there was not any car park there to talk of.
Many thanks for the laugh anyway
Regards,
Bob
