Parking on Double Yellow Lines - Jay W (17th Apr 2014 - 17:40:55)
What is the point of double yellow lines if cars (and not just one) are allowed to park on them?
Had trouble getting out of Canada Way onto the roundabout opposite Hiscocks today because of the line of parked cars all the way up to the roundabout. And I thought the cars from the Headley Road who park at the top of Tunbridge Crescent caused enough of a hazard!
Wouldn't it be a good idea to have volunteer traffic wardens in the same way as you can have volunteer police? I am sure there are plenty who would love to go round their local area and give out parking tickets. Maybe the fines could go towards improving the road safety in that local area ....... just a thought.

Take a photo of the car (with visible number plate) and time of day and put in on the Hampshire constabulary page.
You can probably send it here to the editor as well!
We could have a name and shame thread....I particularly have an issue with the cars that park immediately on the entrance to Tower Road. Have come around that corner and nearly driven into the back of them many times.

Within East Hampshire the police are no longer responsible for enforcement of on-street parking, this is now the responsibility of East Hampshire District Council who have a team of officers dedicated to this task (although the police will get involved where a vehicle is obstructing a junction)

Just to add / inflame the debate:
Not impressed that cars park outside the tea rooms and Madubans - both double lined and on the approach to a roundabout.
And why is there always a car parked on the corner of Longmoor Road and Forest Lane Close, bang in the middle of a clearly marked apex facing the wrong way into oncoming traffic, unlit and clearly in breach of any traffic laws?
