Speed of traffic along Midhurst Road

how I agree! I used to live in one of the cottages by the bridge and exiting was a nightmare - even slowing down through the S-bend to enter the driveway was fraught with danger.
Just this afternoon, I popped in to see an ex- neighbour. She lives just two houses from the bridge and I know how difficult it is to exit. I came back very slowly, listening for cars, until my car's rear was just into view from behind a hedge. A car coming from Hollycombe direction almost ran into the back of me. I decided to pull back in and let that car go. Lo and behold, one of the crazy drivers from Camberley Auto Factors (White Van Man personified), came screaming through the S-bend and skidded, almost rrear-ending the car which had almost hit me.
This section of the Midhurst Road needs a maximum 20mph speed limit and some form of calming. It would really help if EHDC would agree to residents erecting exit safety mirrors at the end of or opposite their driveways. We tried to get agreement with EHDC years ago but they would not even discuss the issue. There have been numerous crashes here and walls and fences knocked down. Someday - soon - someone will be seriously injured.

*removed* - I would like to broaden your discussion, if I may. I live on Portsmouth Road and, although the road isn't as winding as Midhurst Road, as on Midhurst Road, cars travel far to fast. Particular culprits are the Liphook-Bordon bus and the London-Portsmouth National Express Coach. I think that speeding is a problem all over Liphook; drivers do more than 20 mph in the centre of the village and more than 30 on the approach roads.

My last neighbour was a policeman (now retired and living in Cornwall) who told me that, when the police used to operate speedtraps in Portsmouth Road, the majority of people caught travelling over the speed limit were Liphook residents.

Would EHDC have any success, or even interest, in reducing speeds if the people speeding are the very people they represent?

Tim -

first stage is to go the the Highways sub-committee of the Parish Council. They will then discuss and should refer to EHDC officer responsible for co-ordination between Hampshire CC, Police etc.

Hi, *removed* -

See the latest Parish Council report I posted earlier this evening.

Promise, if I do get elected on May 1, to make this as a priority.

Observation: I try to obey the speed limits, but more than once have been overtaken in Midhurst Road and Portsmouth Road by people way over the limit. The best case was a guy who nipped down the old Midhurst Road, travelling towards The Square. Even though I had to negotiate the Sainsbury's roundabout, I still stayed ahead of him.

Pathetic really.

I'd support more police speed checks. They do sometimes appear in London Road, near the bottom of Tower Road and also just by the entrance to the Recreation ground.

Hi, *removed* -

I think the stickers come from Penns Place EDHD. I'll check tomorrow and report back. If the Parish office doesn't have a stock, I'll get some.

Perhaps we should organise a 5-minute ,slow the traffic, protect in Midhurst Road?
