Pub carpark
- Dawn Hoskins (29th Jan 2009 - 13:06:21)

Does anyone know the reason why the Anchor Pub chains of the entire car-park in the mornings?

As there is such a chronic lack of parking for dropping off kids in the morning, it does seem a shame that they feel the need to do this.

I know that they have CCTV cameras in the car park so it would be reasonably easy (I don’t know ?) to see if those parking are school mums or business men.

Is there a history to this?

The Management at the Anchor (Jez) have been instructed by the Police to secure the carpark outside of trading hours, in the efforts to reduce Crime.

I'm sure if you pop in for a coffee and a chat, Jez will give you the full story.

Cheers
Ben

I think that the chaining of the carpark is not to upset the mums/dads etc on the school run but to reduce idiots causing chaos in the early hours on their mopeds and little sporty cars, car parks are well known to be a gathering spot for certain groups of people who get a kick out of damaging property and making lots of noise.
I am sure the landlord has probably had enough of people complaining to him about excess noise etc after hours!
I know when I was a landlady I was forever having complaints made about such issues and was advised by the police to lock the car park so it did not affect my license applications!

I suspect they have had the same problems as those which I have already documented have ocurred in our station car park. Well done to the Anchor Pub for the stand they have taken

hi. this is a very touchy subject. As secretary of Liphook social Club (next to the village hall) i have a duty to our members, and patrons of the village hall, to make sure that the car park is used only by them. We have a problem with some residents of the Headley road using our premises as their own private car park. This is the reason that we fitted a locking chain which we use randomly to deter non users of the hall and club from parking their vehicles. This makes me unpopular, but what some people fail to see is that there is a liability insurance issue. Although the club owns part of the car park, the village hall owns the rest which is charged for to us as part of our rent that we pay to the VH committee. It is a private car park which is funded by us.This includes the upkeep of it. We have been approached by EHDC about allowing parents to use the car park as a pick up and drop off point. But again because of the insurance issue we refused, not withstanding the fact that no sort of financial input was offered!
