Sold on eBay - delivery
- Stephen D (18th Mar 2014 - 18:38:30)

Hi, I'm planning a clear out of my garage on eBay: bikes, prams & other largish stuff.

I'm dreading the faff with packaging and posting, not least because my boss makes these totally unreasonable demands about me being present every day for the job I'm paid to do.

Does anyone know of any company that would take care of both the packaging and delivery and be convenient for transfer of the goods? Or a place that sells large size packaging? (Or does anyone want a small Easter holiday job?)

Ps I've thought of selling as "collect only" but am advised that it vastly reduces the change of a sale and it still entails some sort of delivery or collection and potentially weirdos turning up at my house.

Whenever I have sold similar sized stuff, I've always sold it collect only and not really suffered as a consequence - I've had people drive over an hour to collect an aquarium so I wouldn't worry about that having too much of an impact on selling.

I work in London and I've done where they can collect from me in London at lunchtime or after work and that cast the buying net a bit wider (of course you do have to be able to get the items on the train etc).

Delivery of large items can be ridiculously expensive and tricky because of the weight but I have done that on the odd occasion using postagesupermarket.com and either had it collected from home on a Saturday or from work (if your boss would allow it).
Good luck

It is a pain, but people have to accept that most of us work for a living and you can't be expected to post the next day, so just say so, as long as they know, buyers are ok with it and accept that as part of the auction sale. It's true that you have a wider audience if you're prepared to post out, but there are many companies you can use to pick up and deliver, ebay itself has advice on this, as of course, many other sellers feel just like you.
There are various courier service companies that you could use to put on your ad' and tell the potential buyer that they need to arrange via them to collect, for example:
http://www.smallremovals.co.uk/ebay.htm or you use them yourself? Parcel Monkey is also a good one.
Accept the faff and get stuck in, you took years to clog the garage up, you can shift it much quicker.. it's probably the better use of your time that drives you nuts, but it'll be worth it :-) Good luck.

Might also be worth putting on Facebook pages such as "Buy and Sell in Haslemere and surrounding villages" not sure there is one for Liphook... (you can say it is listed on multiple sites there.

Hi a neighbour of mine moved and sold everything at a good price by listing it on here. I am sure that most people would wait until the weekend to pick it up from you. i would try that option before listing on ebay, as the carriage costs might prohibit people from bidding. Or you could offer both options? local collection or post?

definitely recommend the facebook selling page, there is a Liphook one (as long as your on facebook you can join). People seem to be very happy to collect. I would have been interested in helping but can only do weekends and evenings too.
