Household goods - what to do/where to go..
- JJ (13th Mar 2014 - 16:42:02)

It has been my experience that many people looking for some household items, or people not knowing what to do with theirs, do not know about The Furniture Helpline in Bordon. You can donate many household items and also go along to look at what they have and buy from them too. This is for everyone, but clearly any money they make goes towards helping those in difficult times or situations.
Please consider them. Take a look at their opening times as it's run by volunteers:

Our aim is to reduce the effects of low income via the provision of affordable household goods, household furniture and white-goods by making them available at very low prices to those with a need.

That's a shame that you feel disappointed by their response.
I do know they have to charge to collect large items, this is because they need to cover fuel and running costs of the large van. Also, they don't always take everything, I know, for example, my friend wanted to donate a Victorian styled brass bed, dismantled, but they had too many that people were not interested in buying, so they declined.
On the other hand, a disabled lady I know found them invaluable when her fridge broke down and she couldn't afford a new one.
Please consider them is all I ask.
Thank you.

Hi Steve,
About a year ago I was on the hunt for affordable used household items; contacted them and indeed they were a complete waste of time. They were very unhelpful on the phone, to say the least.
What a shame.

I have an electric bed I was going to give to them, but they said they can not deal with anything electrical at this time!
Such a shame. I don't know what else to do with it!

I tried to give them a 3 piece suite - it was in good condition but obviously not that new as it didn't have the safety label that apparently appears on new suites these days - so they wouldn't take it.

I thoroughly recommend Freecycle - you can rehome anything - electrical, the lot - stuff that the charities are either too fussy or can’t take because of all the safety regulations in force these days.

Our local site is at: groups.freecycle.org/group/BordonAltonPetersfield

Rachel
You might want to try the YMCA charity shop in the forest centre in bordon. Also I believe the British Heart Foundation may also take items of furniture
