lost bird
- wendy (12th Mar 2014 - 10:56:49)

I have a large golden brown pheasant type bird in my garden. White ring round neck, green head and large red patches around the eyes.

Not sure if its a wild one slightly lost or someones pet!!!

Was spotted in Erles Road early today and a few days ago.

Hi,

Stupid question but - does it look like this:

...If so, it's just a normal ('wild') pheasant.......

I really think it is just a wild pheasant - it's the right time of year.

Perhaps you live in a part of Liphook where they don't wander to very often, or maybe you just moved here.. but we live on the outskirts and get them fairly often, partridges too.

I would just enjoy the visit if i were you..

We have Fred no-tail, Fred and Fred II in the garden all year round. Fortunately our cat is a bit of a wuss and runs away if they squark at him.

They breed them in captivity, then let them go so they can blast them to kingdom come. It probably heard that a new shop was opening and there would be lot's of people in their new camouflage outfits roaming the outskirts of Liphook, so moved into your garden for safety.

They've been there a few years longer than the camouflage shop - but perhaps we can expect some more. I've never understood the so-called 'sport' in shooting 'semi wild' pheasants which are so tame. There has to be something for those who can't really shoot I suppose!

I was walking along the road that go's past the main sorting office (sorry can't remember name) today. As I passed the back of Flechers Field where there is a large garden as such, I saw a big black and white cat stalking something!
All of a sudden a male pheasant came squawking out of a bush!
I do hope he got away.

It's those poor clay pigeons I feel sorry for ..
